Knight" ink stamp throughout. 2 vols. 4to. Oscar travels with his family from Fremantle Australia to England where they remain for some months before departing from Southampton for America. The diary begins abroard the German mail ship P.R. Lutpold bound for England with stops at Aden Port Said Naples Genoa and London. It is unclear why the family leaves Australia where they had lived in Sydney and Perth but it is likely in connection to Oscar's father's business. Upon arriving in America the Knights spend some time in Hoboken before eventually settling in Pittsburgh. Young Oscar seems a polite well-behaved boy foud of doing his sums and attending Sunday school and he often worries about his mother's health. He does indulge in the occasional boyish pursuit attending films and circuses playing baseball and shooting his home-made slingshot with his brother Eric. Provenance: G. & N.
