Roycroft Little Journeys lot of 51 copies
East Aurora New York: The Roycrofters. Softcover. Very Good-. Moderate wear occasional soil bumped corners wrinkling to edges occasional leaves unopened etc.; Elbert Hubbard's biographical essays about fictional 'journeys' to the homes of "eminent" orators lovers scientists reformers artists and philosophers. Most back covers are advertisements for Roycroft things with some "Roycroft mottos" or aphorisms framed in faux Kelmscott style. An occasional engraved portrait of the subject of the individual work. A very occasional W. W. Denslow caricature within. Generally Very Good- to Very Good condition. These 10-cent Little Journeys chapbooks were ephemeral and not intended to last despite Roycroft's willingness to bind a year's worth as a complete volume in boards. Any given copy could be comprised of 2 or 3 different pulp papers plus the wraps that were essentially butcher paper. All leaves and wraps have varying degrees of tanning and darkening from the acid content in the pulp paper. Most back covers are advertisements for Roycroft things with some "Roycroft mottos" or aphorisms framed in faux Kelmscott style. These chapbooks are 8" x 6" saddle stitched into soft wraps and typically 40 to 48 pages. Occasional leaves unopened. Printed in black and red with printer's devices decorative rules and other bits also in red. An occasional engraved portrait of the subject of the individual work. A very occasional W. W. Denslow caricature within. Stated as being issued by "the Roycrofters" one of Elbert Hubbard's various and inconsistent namings of his 'press' these little chapbooks emanated from the Roycroft Print Shop. All should be considered as having moderate wear occasional soil bumped corners wrinkling to edges etc. All are presentable intact and right for your collection or impulse items in your open shop. Generally Very Good- to Very Good condition.; B&W Illustrations; 16mo 6" - 7" tall; 40 pages . The Roycrofters paperback

He sold Putnam's the idea of putting out a brief 'Little Journey' biographical sketch on a monthly basis. Later, when he established his own print shop, he took over the whole project. He also p rint ed and published two national opinion magazines, the 'Fra' and the 'Philistine'. He was also responsible for the famed 'A Message to Garcia'.
