‎* Gerhard Alfred Prinz (* 5. April 1929 in Solingen; ? 29. Oktober 1983 in Stuttgart) war ein deutscher Manager. Er war von 1980 bis 1983 Vorstandsvorsitzender der Daimler-Benz AG. Gerhard Prinz stammte aus einer Solinger Unternehmerfamilie. Er studierte Wirtschafts- und Rechtswissenschaften und promovierte in letzteren. Anschließend war er Assistent des Geschäftsführers der Wirtschaftsvereinigung Eisen- und Stahlindustrie Düsseldorf, Hans Dichgans. Es folgte eine Anstellung bei Brown, Boveri & Cie. unter Kurt Lotz, mit dem er 1967 zum Volkswagenkonzern wechselte. Im Jahr 1969 wurde Prinz Vorstandsmitglied von VW, 1973 wechselte er schließlich zu Daimler-Benz, wo er im Vorstand das Ressort Materialeinkauf übernahm. 1977 war er zuständig für den Kauf des amerikanischen Schwerlastwagen-Herstellers Euclid Trucks. Am 1. Januar 1980 wurde Prinz Nachfolger von Joachim Zahn, starb jedoch schon knapp vier Jahre später im Alter von nur 54 Jahren an einem Herzinfarkt. (Quelle Wikipedia)‎

Januar 1914 in Barmen oder Wesel;[3] ? 8. Oktober 2002 nahe München) war ein deutscher Industriejurist. Von 1971 bis 1979 war er Vorstandsvorsitzender der Daimler-Benz AG. Joachim Zahn war der jüngste von vier Söhnen von Käthe Zahn, geborene von Cossel, und des Wuppertaler Anwaltes Hans Zahn. Weitere Brüder waren Johannes Zahn, Michael Zahn und Eberhard Zahn. Er studierte Rechtswissenschaft in Tübingen, wo er 1932 Mitglied des Corps Rhenania wurde. Später wechselte er nach Köln und Königsberg. In Köln promovierte er 1937 mit dem Thema Grenzen der Kreditsicherung durch Sicherungsübereignung. 1940 folgte das Große Staatsexamen und der Staatsdienst. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde er als Offizier in Russland und Italien eingesetzt. Seine Karriere in der Wirtschaft begann 1947 bei der Deutschen Treuhand-Gesellschaft, zum Schluss 1954 als Vorstandsmitglied. In den folgenden Jahren war er im Vorstand der Aschaffenburger Zellstoffwerke für Finanzen zuständig. Im Jahr 1958 ging Zahn als Finanzchef zu Daimler-Benz. Am 1. Oktober 1965 wurde er Sprecher des Vorstandes und ab 1971 war er Vorstandsvorsitzender. Er war unter anderem Ehrenmitglied im Präsidium des Bundesverbandes der Deutschen Industrie und wurde mit dem Großen Verdienstkreuz (1969) mit Stern (1978) der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, mit der Verdienstmedaille des Landes Baden-Württemberg, mit der Bürgermedaille der Stadt Stuttgart sowie 1980 mit dem Großen Goldenen Ehrenzeichen mit dem Stern für Verdienste um die Republik Österreich ausgezeichnet. Mit seiner Wahl zum Vorstandsvorsitzenden im Jahre 1971 konnte sich Zahn gegen seinen größten damaligen Konkurrenten Hanns Martin Schleyer durchsetzen, der anders als Zahn den Ausbau der Nutzfahrzeugsparte bei Daimler forcieren wollte. In seine Zeit als Vorstandschef fällt die Entscheidung, eigene Vertriebstöchter im Ausland zu gründen, etwa in den USA Mercedes-Benz USA aufzubauen. Der Bau des Mercedes-Benz-Werks Wörth als größtem europäischen Lkw-Werk ab 1963 fällt ebenso in seine Amtsperiode. Berühmt wurde Joachim Zahn auch für die Rücklage von hohen Finanzreserven, von denen Daimler-Benz noch viele Jahre später zehren konnte. Zahn blieb dem Unternehmen als Berater von Jürgen Schrempp bis zu seinem Tode verbunden. 1973 verlieh ihm die Landesregierung Baden-Württemberg den Professoren-Titel. ‎AUSTINBURG OHIO ASHTABULA COUNTY. Good. 1934. On offer is an interesting group of five 5 manuscript diaries exemplifying the life of a prosperous farmer's wife and her family in Depression Era and pre-war middle America. Handwritten by Daisy H Woods nee Herrick wife to Mr. George Woods and mother to Dwight and John. Daisy and her family reside in Austinburg Township Ashtabula Ohio and her diaries span January 1st 1934 - December 25 1939 with the exception of her 1936 diary which is absent. Daisy is in her mid-40s a well-meaning Christian who far too often misses church! and the backbone of her comfortable hard-working family. Daisy's diaries paint a fascinating picture of rural life in the early 20th century Ohio living on a busy farm that backs into an large wooded expanse wherein the farm runs all year around - gardening and berry picking in the summer canning in the fall preparing and selling animals in the winter and tapping for maple syrup in the spring. Each family member plays a role. The boys and men work tirelessly building ploughing feeding animals and helping neighbouring farmers in exchange for help on their own land. The women or in this case the woman Daisy works too. She is the family sales representative making near-daily trips to nearby Geneva and "Ash" which is where she goes when she goes into town to sell the farm's bounty. Daisy sells butter cream chicken maple syrup and sausage and proudly records what she has sold each trip in her diary. She is also the chronicler of the weather. The day's weather tends to begin most of her journal entries. She is also a proud and loving mother who frets when her eldest son Dwight is away from home working and rejoicing when he returns home for visits or to stay and work. Since Dwight and husband George are away so often Daisy babies young John who she brings with on most of her outings to town and coddles when he becomes ill allowing him to stay home from school for longer than he needs to on a few occasions. The Woods family offers an alternative view on life during The Great Depression. They are not victims of the Depression. Rather they are thriving. They own a car a Dodge they wash their clothes in a washing machine they buy pigs from the neighbours and pick up odds and ends on most of their trips to town Daisy hosts traveling salesmen and considers purchases such as the Singer brand sweeper which she claims she "doesn't like at all". Through visitors to the Woods' home and farm readers are introduced to many of the local families of Austinberg Ohio. We meet the Hendersons the Goodwins the Warrens the Ranbels and many many more. Daisy's is something of a hub of social gatherings to the point that she will make frustrated note on days that she does not receive visitors. Perhaps this is why Daisy is so interesting. She is the consummate mother and hostess yet she bucks gender norms in other ways. Stated plainly Daisy just doesn't like to work very hard. Of course she churns butter. Of course she cleans and bakes. But…a common day for Daisy is one where she writes about bustling around and accomplishing little followed by a meticulous summary of how back breakingly hard the men of the house labored. For example on August 1st 1938 she describes the hard labour her sons and husband engaged in all day long and concludes with "I didn't do much all day". She makes plans she gest distracted the day passes her by yet her boys and husband are often gone for days at a time working in the woods on the farm in the fields. Daisy's affinity for avoiding work is exemplified during the months of January-March 1937 when the Woods family take in victims of the Ohio Flood of 1937. Daisy's friends Nerlie and Martha come to stay along with their husbands and children. The husbands help on the farm and Nerlie and Martha do Daisy's chores. In fact it's not until January 27 1937 that Daisy even alludes to the reason her friends and staying with her when she states "this flood disaster is getting worse and worse". Prior to that she simply lists off who did the ironing washing and cleaning each day. Later she gives more detail about the assistance she and her family gave to the flood victims but by late-February Daisy becomes bored with the charity and frustrated with her guests' children. On February 28 1937 14-year-old Jack is kept home from school sick by his mother and Daisy states "Jack stayed home sick Was able to watch every move any of us made…" funny because she would often keep her own son John home sick for any number of reasons!. Daisy finally finds relief on March 5: "well they finally got moved got away about noon". Daisy has kept a thorough and detailed account of her life and the life of the men she loves the friends she chats with and the world she inhabits. Her diaries give life the farmers of Ohio and to a class of people who work hard and manage to avoid the pitfalls of the Depression thriving when others flailed. All of the Woods diaries are in very good condition and in the back of some of them she has kept a ledger of funds in and out which give a sense of the commerce of the time. It is easy to imagine Daisy and John in Geneva selling butter and noting the buyer and the price in the back of the diary. Mr. Barnum is a young man using slang of the day. He writes about concerts and plays he attends and mentions seeing Mid Summer Nights Dream and says it was "punk". He is also extremely interested in local crime criminal arrests politics and current events which local collectors and historians of the Richmond Indiana area will appreciate. ‎1941 ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT DIARY OF A WOMAN WHO DETAILS THE NEVER ENDING HARD WORK OF LIVING ON A FARM AND THE SOMETIME CRUELTY OF THOSE SHE LIVES WITH IN AND AROUND THE AMISH AND MENNONITE COMMUNITIES OF OHIO‎

‎WOOSTER KIDRON ORRVILLE OHIO OH. Very Good. 1941. On offer is an original manuscript relic of another time and another era being a 1941 diary handwritten by we believe a woman detailing her life on the farm somewhere near Wooster Kidron and Orrville Ohio in and around the Amish and Mennonite communities. While unidentified in the book recent research suggests it is that she was Dale Schaffter who died in an Orrville Wayne Co. OH nursing home 23 Feb 1988 at age 98. In 1940 Ohio/Wayne County/Sugar Creek/Enumeration District 85-39 image 25 of 32 she was living in a household with her younger apparently not very kind! sister Blanche also not married age 46 her widowed perhaps divorced mother Elsie age 75 and "foster daughter" May Kiener age 16. They lived right next door to a Yoder family. Ohio death records indicate that Blanche also never married but Dale outlived her Blanche d. 07 Jul 1983 at age 89 in a hospital in Canton Stark Co. Ohio. The 1930 census shows the household headed by Augustus Schaffter a blacksmith age 67 and May Kiener is already with the family. The 1920 census includes a son Floyd b. ca1901--also mentioned in the excerpts. and her diary is typical of the time and the place mentioning cleaning baking and gardening with Mama often sewing and her chores and animals mostly pigs on the farm but there are some interesting anecdotal entries such as Blanche having some of her 'spells'. Her are some snippets: "I finished the dress that Wilma gave me except the belt. Dawn brought me a buckle for it cost .50. I sold her 3 dz. eggs at .18. I sent my sacks to be washed those Aunt Millie gave me. My pig feed was delivered from Nussbaum m's sic charges 3.20. I had Blanche get me a water fountain for chicks $1.60." She also mentions other women Blanche and May who I thought may be her sisters but her last entry for Dec. 31st would negate that. She also mentions a boy Floyd a few excerpts: "Mamma and I were canning beef all day. Blanche had another spell - ordered my and May's things out of the kitchen. I made the waist and sleeves for May's navy dress while I watched the processer sic. My 3rd peep died. Elva C. was here for Floyd taking him to spend weekend." Next day she wrote: "I canned more meat and worked at May's navy dress but didn't quite finish it. I sent with Blanche to Kidron for 200 lbs. chick starter at L.E. Sommers and 1 qt. cod liver oil. We have canned 41 qts. of beef an 6 pts." She also writes of when she and others went to church. Her everyday activities center around cleaning cooking baking and farming like most women's lives were like on a farm but this is distinctly different in the descriptions she provides of her clothes and other tangibles helping one to visualize what her day-to-day life was like. Oddly though hardly surprising given the nature of Amish life there is no mention of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. However in the last entries of December we note discord that may provide a better understanding of just what the relationship with Blanche was - and it was not an easy one. They may have been related somehow--Blanche Mama May and the writer of the diary or they lived together out of necessity or because it was the Amish way. Starting with a few lines on Dec. 29 1941 "Blanche took Mamma to Dalton to Uncle Als. I went along to Dalton Mill paid my bill and ordered mash and oats. ; Dec. 30 1941: "I went to Kidron with Blanche got grit for peeps 25 cts. and paid $20.00 on acc. at L.E.'s. I bought a gift for May to take to Banquet and gift exchange at the church 25 cts. May went to Akron with Ward and Elsie. My feed from Dalton Mill didn't come. May and I cleaned the brooder house." And finally but sadly Dec. 31 1941: "Feed delivered this evening. Uncle Al brought Mamma home Uncle Al dead funeral at Medina Jan 1 1942 2 P.M. I went to Paul Armst_____ P.M. for May. Lillie was here to tell me of a place May and I could go. Blanche ordered Mamma and I to sell our belongings and move."
