Gariglio Paolo; Papa Marco; De Antoni Massimiliano
Francesco Brach Papa. Intrepido pioniere e mecenate dell'Aviazione Missionaria Italiana
ill.

GARNER, James W (editor)
Addresses Delivered on the Occasion of the Celebration of the One Hundredth Anniversary of the Birth of Stephen A. Douglas
N.p.: State of Illinois 1915. Hardcover. 8vo. Green cloth with gilt lettering. 125pp. Frontispiece illustrations. Very good. A tight and quite attractive first edition with gilt gleaming -- and an intriguing copy for the front flyleaf is boldly inscribed in black ink: "Sarah Bond Hanley / To / Adlai E. Stevenson II / December 18 1951." Hanley 1865-1959 was an Illinois state legislator active in Democratic politics and chairman of the 1930 Democratic State Convention in 1930 and Stevenson 1900-65 was of course the Illinois governor who at this time was being spoken of as the next Democratic presidential candidate -- which happened the following year and again in 1956 though he lost both times to Dwight D. Eisenhower. An interesting association copy for Stevenson's grandfather Adlai E. Stevenson I 1835-1914 vice president under Cleveland contributes one lengthy chapter and is pictured in this volume and his great-grandfather Jesse Fell was a friend and colleague of Douglas's opponent Abraham Lincoln. GARO KÜRKMAN.
Armenian painters in the Ottoman Empire. 2 volumes set.
New English Original bdg. Dust wrapper. In the original slipcase. Folio. (33 x 24 cm). Edition in English. 2 volumes set: (988 p.), 1600 color ills. and many plates. This lavishly illustrated, deeply researched, two volume collection is the outcome of 15 years of exploration into Armenian painters, both amateur and professional, who were born in the Ottoman Empire. The book contains condensed biographies of artists, even those for whom it was impossible to find any existing paintings. It also features several paintings for which no biographical information on the artist could be found. The collection features extensive study of the styles and signatures used by the painters, who were all born in the Ottoman Empire but ended up scattered throughout the world. The author made efforts to contact the artists' families when possibly, sought information in church records and obituaries, and explored the archives of Armenian and Ottoman Turkish newspapers. The books include details on roughly 450 Armenian painters born in the Ottoman Empire from the 17th century until 1923. A true labor of love, this work's collection of glorious color photographs brings to life the skilled Armenian artists who once populated modern day Turkey. This is a treasure of information and beauty collected in one beautiful, boxed, two-book set. By the same researcher and author who produced the wonderfully detailed books Anatolian Weights and Measures and Ottoman Silver Marks.

Garosci Aldo; Bertini M. (cur.)
Anni di Torino, anni di Parigi e altre pagine autobiografiche
br.
