The center of each board is sprinkle decorated in such a way as to show a memorial urn. Binding is worn but quite unusual. James W. Paul Jr. was a wealthy bankermarried to socialite Fanny Drexel (1855-1892). Their estate (Woodcrest) had a Horace Trumbauer designed 51-room, half-timbered mansion for banker. It took just two years to build, but the mix of medieval and Georgian styles was intended to make it look like it had evolved over generations. It is now on the grounds of Cabrini College. William Morris Meredith (1799-1873) was a Philadelphian lawyer and politician. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1812, and was was admitted to the bar in 1817. He served in the Pennsylvania General Assembly (1824-1828), and was president of the Philadelphia City Council (1834-1849. He was also United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in 1841. President Zachary Taylor, wanting a Pennsylvanian Whig for his cabinet, appointed William M. Meredith to be the 19th Secretary of the Treasury. He began his term in office in March 1849. Meredith strongly opposed the free trade legislation passed the year before. He felt that there was a need to protect the American workman, who was subject to competition from poorly paid European labor. He was the state attorney general of Pennsylvania (1861-1867). In 1870, Meredith served as a member of a commission working out the settlement of the Alabama claims. He died while attending the PA Constitutional Convention in 1873. PA 15
