Written in German the front and back boards are loose from the book some edge wear paper cover to the spine worn away. 1845-1876 a written date on the firs loose blank page of 1910. A very rare antique copy of the German Fairy Tale book Der Struwwelpeter . Translated it is Shockhead Peter. This edition is the 100th anniversary 100th printing in 1876. Originally written in 1845. The doctor who wrote it wanted a book for his children that taught valuable lessons. He could not find a suitable one so published his own. It was popular with friends and more copies were published. The stories are supposed to be for 3-6 year olds. The stories vary from a boy who doesn't have good hygiene and can't make friends Shockhead Peter. Other stories include a girl who plays with matches and burns up and a boy who won't stop sucking his thumbs so a man comes and cuts them off and a number of others. Fully illustrated in color .
