Fine edition of Hans Andersen' Fairy Tales in the original publisher's cloth binding and slipcase. With sixteen colour plates and black and white illustrations throughout the text illustrated by Heath Robinson. Collated complete. Andersen's Fairy Tales were first published in Danish from 1835 and in English from 1846. This is a reprint from the 1913 edition with illustrations by Robinson published by Constable & Co. Ltd. This is the eleventh printing of this edition first issued in 1995. With beautiful decorative gilt to the front board and spine. In the original publisher's cloth binding and slipcase. The slipcase is in fine condition. The binding is also in fine condition. Part of the page of one of the first free endpapers has been neatly cut out likely to remove an inscription. Previous owner's name on front free endpaper. A beautiful illustration of a female archer is on a bookplate along with previous owner's name. Cloth on spine is missing a piece at top and has a few small tears. Bottom front corner bumped. Some spotting and thumb prints on pages. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with moderate staining tanning and scuffing overall. Pen mark to front board. Spine has noticeable tanning with visible splitting and crushing to ends.
