Allerdings: "Nach 13jähriger negativer Erfahrung mit Staatsanwälten und Zensoren sind wir kein Michael Kohlhaas mehr. Wir haben daher schweren Herzens etwa 20 Seiten aus der originalen 'Barbara' gestrichen" (Vorwort). Die bürgerliche Zeitgeist-Scham mutet vielleicht folgerichtig an angesichts der mehr als 10 Jahre alten Einschätzung eines politischen Magazin zu neuerlichen Publikation des Olympia-Verlags: "Ob sich die Staatsanwaltschaft über diese neuen Porno-Publikationen überhaupt noch erregen wird, erscheint fraglich. Im »Barbara«-Prozeß gegen Schröder hat sich bereits gezeigt, daß auch der »Unzüchtigkeit« verdächtige Pornographie eher einschläfernd wirkt: Die Verlesung des inkriminierten Buches wurde nach zwei Stunden abgebrochen -- wegen Ermüdung des Gerichts." Cette édition, qui conserve tout son mystère quant à son éditeur et imprimeur, aurait été adaptée du texte initial de Rétif de la Bretonne par Pierre Mac Orlan (d'après Dutel).
