Die Revanche der 'Penthesileia' gegen all die frauenfeindliche Literatur ist im Grunde genommen unfair, denn "durch ihren angeborenen physiologischen Schwachsinn genügend entschuldigt, wagt es aus dieser Deckung heraus die Verfasserin, ein paar eigene Beobachtungen und Einfälle herauszugeben - von der Fingerspitze leicht, wie Nasenstüber, hingeschnellt." Costenoble signiert nur die Zeichnungen. Auf anderen Umschlägen schreibt der Verlag ihr das ganze Buch zu und nicht nur die Illustrationen. durch andere Ñamen karg erklärt. Geboren 1866 in Danzig. Malerin, Radiererin, sie zeichnet Portraits und Landschaften, findet um 1900 Anschluß an die Berliner Sezession. Als Frau hat sie keinen Zutritt zu den Akademien. Karl Gussow (1843 bis 1907), Kunstprofessor in Berlin, nimmt sie in seine Privatschule auf. Kontakt hat sie mit dem Literatenkreis um die Brüder Julius und Heinrich Hart; sie portraitiert den Dichter Richard Dehmel und richtet Grüße an Detlev von Liliencron; vergeblich versucht sie, die Radierung, das Dehmel-Bildnis, an den 'Pan' zu verkaufen. ‎Rar. Original-Ausgabe - mit einer Widmung von Perceau - sowie einer signierten Original-Radierung, die eine nackte Frau über einem Nachttopf hockend zeigt. Diese Gedichtsammlung erschien als Privatdruck des Autors nur in sehr wenigen Exemplaren für ihn und seine Freunde, gedruckt auf vergé antique. Die Gedichte huldigen und beschreiben die verliebte, die ganz junge oder frisch verheiratete oder reife Frau beim Pinkeln, ein kleines Defilee der Pisseuses. Die Radierung entstand wohl um 1920, die Signatur können wir nicht entziffern. Vortitel und Titel ganz leicht braunfleckig, sonst schönes Exemplar. Pia 1136f. -------------------- Perceau, Louis. Original edition - with a dedication by Perceau - as well as a signed original etching showing a naked woman squatting over a chamber pot. This collection of poems was published as a private edition by the author in very few copies for him and his friends, printed on vergé antique. The poems pay homage to and describe the woman in love, the very young or newly married or mature woman peeing, a small defilee of the pissuses. The etching was probably made around 1920, we cannot decipher the signature. Front cover and title very slightly brownstained, otherwise a fine copy. Pia 1136f. -------------------- Perceau, Louis. Édition originale - avec une dédicace de Perceau - ainsi qu'une eau-forte originale signée, représentant une femme nue accroupie au-dessus d'un pot de chambre. Ce recueil de poèmes a été publié en tant que tirage privé de l'auteur, à très petit nombre d'exemplaires pour lui et ses amis, imprimés sur vergé antique. Les poèmes rendent hommage et décrivent la femme amoureuse, la toute jeune, la jeune mariée ou la femme mûre en train de faire pipi, un petit défilé de pisseuses. La gravure a probablement été réalisée vers 1920, nous ne pouvons pas déchiffrer la signature. Très légères rousseurs sur le faux-titre et le titre, sinon bel exemplaire. Pia 1136f.‎

A biography of perhaps America's most infamous writer author of "Tropic of Cancer" "Tropic of Capricorn" "The World of Sex" and numerous other works outlawed for years in England and the U.S. by a fellow writer and friend who knew Miller in Paris in the 1930s during the early years of Miller's career. Although Perles later spent a half-year with Miller in Big Sur to enable him to write about Miller's life after World War II it is the decade of the Thirties in Paris when it was the capital of the artistic world that this book is all about. It is "a precise and humerous description of an unusual man who wrote unusual books during an unusual time." 255 pages with a preface by Miller and including an index and a bibliography of Miller's work in all languages. Boards are worn at the spine ends and corners with a quarter-inch tear at the top of the spine. The text block shows some soiling on the top edge and a single dogeared page 125-126 o/w boards and text are clean and unmarked tight and square not remaindered. The dustjacket is worn but about 98% whole. Its spine is sun-faded and there are numerous small tears and chips along the edges but nothing of the dj's design or lettering is missing. It is not price-clipped and now enclosed in a Brodart protector. <br/> <br/> The John Day Company hardcover‎
