‎Nachdruck der erstmals in der Reihe 'Bibliotheca erotica et curiosa' 1971 erschienenen Neuübersetzung der Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) zugeschriebenen Erzählungen. 'Teleny' ist ein Roman, der 1893 anonym in einer Auflage von nur 200 Exemplaren in London erschien; 1895 folgte eine zweite, ebenfalls anonyme Auflage. Oscar Wildes Autorschaft gilt nicht als gesichert. Das Buch erzählt die homoerotische Liebesgeschichte zwischen dem französischen Dandy Camille und dem ungarischen Pianisten René (Teleny), deren Liebe an gesellschaftlichen Repressalien zerbricht. Die Erzählung 'The Priest and the Acolyte' erschien im Juni 1894 und thematisiert die Liebe eines Mannes zu einem Jüngling, eines Priesters zu seinem Messnerknaben. Sieben Übertragungen ins Deutsche lassen sich zählen, die erste stammt aus dem Jahre 1896. In ihr wird Oscar Wilde als Autor angegeben, das ist er aber wohl nicht. Die gern verwendete Zuschreibung an Helen Maria Williams ist einfach nur zu schön (sie war gegen die Sklaverei und für die Französische Revolution), um wahr zu sein, denn Helen Maria wurde 1759 oder 1762 geboren und hätte demzufolge im zarten Alter von 11 bzw. 8 Jahren dieses Werk verfassen müssen... Einband etwas berieben und an den Kapitalen bestossen. Vereinzelt leicht braunfleckig. Insgesamt gutes und sauberes Exemplar. ------------------ Amsterdam, D. J. L'attribution souvent utilisée à Helen Maria Williams est trop belle (elle était contre l'esclavage et pour la Révolution française) pour être vraie, car Helen Maria est née en 1759 ou 1762 et aurait donc dû écrire cet ouvrage à l'âge tendre de 11 ou 8 ans... La reliure a été un peu froissée et cognée sur les capitales. Taches brun clair occasionnelles. Binding somewhat rubbed and bumped at the capitals. Occasional light brown spotting. Overall a good and clean copy.‎

In 1987 when the 247 studies of Helga were exhibited at the National Gallery and then toured nationally there was extensive criticism of the museum and the work. First edition first printing. About 9 3/4 x 11 1/4 inches. 208 pages bound in red cloth-covered boards with gold lettering on front panel and spine. 294 illustrations 96 in full color with complete documentation of each work. Also included are a chronology of exhibitions a selected bibliography and comments on the work by Wyeth. The dustjacket shows a reproduction of "Braids" 1979 in full color on the front panel and four pencil studies for the painting on the back panel. The frontispiece is a drawing titled "The First Drawing" 1971 a small study of the model's head. There is a small dime-sized erasure mark in the top corner of the fep o/w boards and text are complete clean and unmarked with no significant flaws of any kind. The dustjacket is likewise close to perfect and now cased in a Brodart protector. A very collectable copy.
