These essays are predominantly wartime pieces that cover a variety of topics including popular culture as well as literature. Contents include 'Charles Dickens' 'Boys' Weeklies' 'Benefit of Clergy: Some Notes on Salvador Dali' and 'Wells Hitler and the World State' which was a response to H. G. Wells' 'Guide to the New World'. This work was considered by the author himself to be one of his most important works. George Orwell 1903-1950 also known as Eric Arthur Blair was an English novelist essayist and journalist. He is best known for works such as 'Animal Farm' as well as 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' with his many novels remaining influential within popular and political culture. One page of publisher's adverts to the rear of text. Prior owner's ink inscription to front paste down belonging to Jay Hayward and dated 1946.Collated complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding in the original price-clipped dust wrapper.
