The second half contains an essay of Orwell's middle-class upbringing and how his political views changed as he grew.The Left Book Club was founded in 1936 and ran until 1948 pioneered by the noted publisher Victor Gollancz. The monthly books were intended to be anti-war and anti-fascism during World War Two. Gollancz disapproved of the second half of the book disavowing the middle-class but Orwell fought to have it included in the book. Bound in the publisher's original paperback cloth wraps. Externally sound with slight discoloration to the cloth extremities and spine with an ink inscription to the front. Light fraying to the cloth extremities. Small marks including one or two light tide marks. Scattered spotting to endpapers. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright with scattered spotting predominantly to the first and last few pages. <p>Ultra scarce first print. Uk prints of Orwell tends to be the earliest but not here.<br />Dust-jacket very worn but complete. Front-flap hanging on to the other parts of the jacket as seen. Back of jacket gone up 1/3 or 4th from spine of jacket.<br />Jacket in plastic changing colour and very noticeable on verso of jacket which is brown.<br />Previous ex-library book also has marks on both pastedowns also from having jacket seperated from book. Marks on jacket from being taken out from jacket.<br />Extremely hard to acquire in jacket.</p> Harper & brothers hardcover
