‎Exemple étonnant de premier roman écrit à l'âge de soixante-quatorze ans, Jules et Jim a inspiré un film célèbre à François Truffaut, qui adaptera également Les Deux Anglaises et le continent. « Je peux dire que la lecture, en 1953, de Jules et Jim, premier roman d'un vieillard de 74 ans, a déterminé ma vocation de cinéaste. J'avais 21 ans et j'étais critique de cinéma. J'ai eu le coup de foudre pour ce livre et j'ai pensé : si un jour je réussis à faire des films, je tournerai Jules et Jim. J'ai peu après rencontré l'auteur du livre que l'idée d'un contact avec le cinéma enchantait. Au début 61, j'ai pensé que le moment était venu de concrétiser ce vieux rêve. J'ai essayé de transposer fidèlement ce beau livre que l'éditeur Gallimard présentait ainsi : « Un pur amour à trois». » Avant d'être élevé au Panthéon du Cinéma français, le film échappe de peu à l'interdiction totale, pour sa prétendue immoralité. Il sort en France avec une interdiction aux moins de 18 ans. Jules et Jim est la célèbre histoire d'un amour à trois : Jules, un poète juif allemand séjournant à Paris avant la première guerre mondiale, rencontre Jim, poète français qui devient son inséparable ami. Ils font de concert quelques conquêtes féminines, jusqu'à ce que Jules épouse Kathe, allemande elle aussi, en visite culturelle en France également... l'amour de Jules pour Kathe ne fonctionnant vraiment que s'il est complété par celui de Jim... Monument fondateur du polyamour, il est largement autobiographique : Jules et Jim se sont rencontrés à Paris, alors qu'ils étudiaient ensemble. Henri-Pierre Roché va raconter l'histoire de leur amitié et de leurs amours entre la France et l'Allemagne à 10 000 lieues des soubresauts de la Grande Guerre. Jim, c'est lui, ou presque ; et Jules et Kathe sont directement inspirés par l'écrivain autrichien Franz Hessel et par Helen Grund (Berlinoise, fille d'un banquier prussien protestant) : ils sont les parents de Stéphane Hessel. Mais l'histoire remonte aussi à un peu plus loin : Henri-Pierre Roché fut un bourreau des coeurs, peintre, écrivain et marchand d'art qui rencontre en 1916 Marcel Duchamp. À Paris, Roché se faisait le mécène des femmes artistes qu'il séduit, fréquente le Montmartre du Bateau-Lavoir avant d'être missioné aux États-Unis par le Haut-commissariat de la République française chargé d'encourager l'entrée en guerre des États-Unis. C'est là qu'a lieu la rencontre avec Marcel Duchamp, alors la coqueluche des élites à New York. Duchamp vient de rencontrer Beatrice Wood, le 27 septembre 1916, pour laquelle il éprouve, tout de suite, un fort penchant... ce qui ne l'empêche pas de la présenter à Roché qui devient le premier amant - l'initiateur - de la jeune femme, tout en restant officiellement avec Marcel Duchamp. Cet étrange trio franco-américain, Roché s'en souviendra vraisemblablement aussi au moment de rédiger son roman, comme beaucoup d'autres histoires de sa prime jeunesse où, pendant ses études à Paris, entre 1898 et 1900, «Hachep», comme l'appelle Duchamp, mène «une double vie au cours de laquelle il enterre sa vie de garçon avec une rouerie systématique en abusant d'annonces matrimoniales [...] et diverses manipulations sentimentales qui resteront une constante de sa vie [...)]. L'expérience est assez déstabilisante pour qu'en mars sa mère l'envoie quelques semaines en cure hydrothérapeutique à l'institut Sonnenberg de Carspach en Alsace ».‎

‎Ces planches correspondent à lune des deux bandes dessinées érotiques Ulula sévade ou Ulula et le Boa, (1980). Ulula, pulpeuse mannequin, est nue sur un lit, un ruban noir lié à son cou auquel est accroché des dents de loup. Sur son corps un gigantesque serpent ondule. A ses côtés, une femme assiste à la scène. Ulula héroïne de 36 albums est un superbe top modèle qui se transforme les soirs de pleine-lune en loup garou à la suite dune transfusion de sang de loup reçu pendant sa jeunesse. Au fil des bandes dessinées elle tente de se débarrasser de cette malédiction. Ulula appartient au genre dit Fumetti Neri. Auteur et dessinateur italien de bande dessinée, Giovanni ROMANINI né à Bologne en 1945 fait partie de l'école Italienne de bande dessinée. Il commence sa carrière artistique dans le cinéma danimation et pour une émission télévisée italienne «Carosello». A la fin des années 60, il rencontre Magnus et commence à travailler pour Kriminal puis Satanik. Les deux dessinateurs vont collaborer ensemble. Romanini a créé plusieurs personnages de B.D. dont celui de Wallestein pour Edifumetto, il conçoit également des BD noires et érotiques comme Ulula ou Lady Domina.‎

Seconde édition en partie originale car augmentée d'un troisième volume. La première parut en 1780 sous l'hospice du pasteur Juventin, auteur de l'éloge de l'auteur. Jean-Edme Romilly (Genève, 1739 ou 1740-1779), théologien et encyclopédiste suisse, fils unique de l'horloger, journaliste et encyclopédiste Jean Romilly, qu'il a précédé dans la tombe, étudia la théologie et fut admis au ministère en 1763. Trois ans après, il fut appelé comme pasteur de l'Église wallonne à Londres, mais sa santé délicate ne pouvant s'accommoder au climat, il retourna à Genève et fut chargé de servir l'église de Chancy. En 1770, le Conseil d'État lui accorda sa démission, « en lui conservant son rang, eu égard à ses talents distingués. » Palissot, qui l'a connu particulièrement, l'a peint comme un homme de moeurs douces et régulières, très instruit et doué de la plus aimable modestie. Il a laissé la réputation d'un bon prédicateur. Ses sermons se distinguaient plutôt par une onction douce et persuasive que par la virulence des injonctions. Ami de Rousseau, de d'Alembert, de Diderot et de Voltaire, Romilly a travaillé, comme son père, à l'Encyclopédie. Les articles Tolérance et Vertu sont de lui. PROVENANCE : Madame de Staël, avec l'ex-libris armorié gravé de la « BIBLIOTHÈQUE DE COPPET » au centre du contreplat supérieur de chacun des volumes. Anne-Louise-Germaine Necker (Paris, 1766-1817), baronne de Staël-Holstein, romancière, épistolière et philosophe genevoise et française, est issue d'une famille de protestants valdo-genevois richissimes. Fille du ministre des finances de Louis XVI Jacques Necker, elle est élevée dans un milieu de gens de lettres. Elle épouse, en 1786, le baron Erik Magnus Staël von Holstein, ambassadeur du roi Gustave III de Suède auprès de la cour de France à Versailles. Favorable à la Révolution française et aux idéaux de 1789, elle adopte une position critique dès 1791 et ses idées d'une monarchie constitutionnelle la font considérer comme une opposante gênante par les maîtres de la révolution. Malgré le statut de diplomate de son mari, elle doit se réfugier auprès de son père en Suisse à plusieurs reprises. Interdite de séjour sur le sol français par Napoléon Bonaparte qui la considère comme un obstacle à sa politique, elle s'installe en Suisse dans le château familial de Coppet qui sert de lieu principal de rencontres au groupe du même nom, et d'où elle fait paraître Delphine (1802), Corinne ou l'Italie (1807) et De l'Allemagne (1810/1813b). Simone Balayé indique que la majorité des livres issus de la bibliothèque de Madame de Staël portent à la fois l'ex-libris de la bibliothèque de Coppet et celui de la bibliothèque de Broglie ; on peut donc supposer que l'ouvrage a quitté sa bibliothèque avant le transfert d'une grande partie de sa collection au château de Broglie à la mort d'Auguste de Staël en 1827. Une coiffe arasée, petit manque à une autre, épidermures aux dos en queue des deux premiers tomes, ex-libris en partie retiré aux tomes 2 et 3, rousseurs plus ou moins importantes.‎
