‎* Erich Heinz Ignaz Neumann. * 23. Januar 1905 in Charlottenburg; ? 5. (Quelle Wikipedia)‎

‎New York Women‎

‎TYPEWRITER FIRM RINGS BELL WITH WOMEN'S LIB‎

‎1972. A small archive of photographic negatives with contact sheets showing a protest in New York of the headquarters of the Olivetti typewriter headquarters in 1972. The protest was a response to an unfortunate advertising campaign promoting "brainy" typewriters that were supposed to eliminate the typing errors made by incompetent secretaries. A TV commercial showed a secretary as a vacuous pin-up girl who found that she could attract men by becoming an "Olivetti girl". This infuriated a group of New York City secretaries backed by members of the National Organization of Women which picketed Olivetti's headquarters at 500 Park Avenue "Rebel Secretaries" Time 20 March 1972. The photographs shot in black and white by an unknown photographer show women with protest signs outside the headquarters. Additional photos show a man setting up the "Olivetti Weary Protestors Relief Bar" where "the liberator" was being served: "one part orange juice one part Cointreau one part champagne." The Italian typewriter company founded in 1909 is credited with manufacturing the first programmable desktop computer the Programma 101 launched at the 1964 World's Fair. unknown books‎

‎Nightingale, Florence‎

‎Letters from Egypt: A Journey on the Nile, 1849-1850‎

‎Florence Nightingale was twenty-nine when she visited Egypt in the winter of 1849-50 with her friends Charles and Selina Bracebridge. A journey to the fabled land of the Arabian Nights was a fantastic adventure at that time, and Florence wrote long, picturesque letters to her family describing her visit and her views of the country, its history and its people. These letters were edited and privately printed by her sister, Parthenope, in 1854 and were greatly admired by those who read them, but they have never before been published. Attractive, intelligent and extremely well read, Miss Nightingale was one of the earliest women to make such a journey, and she researched her subject well. Her letters are a fascinating account of life in a country whose greatest asset, its past, had only recently been discovered. They are also a valuable record of a way of life that has now vanished. And they are an extraordinary account into the character of a woman who within five years was to become a legend. The brilliant landscapes and unimaginable colors of Egypt also drew artists from all over Europe, and Letters from Egypt is illustrated throughout with the glorious paintings and lithographs of David Roberts, Theodore Frere, Edward Lear and others. 223p. illus.index. ‎Summary The roles played by women in history, and even the very idea of what it is to be female, have always been in flux, changing over centuries, between cultures, and in response to diverse social and economic parameters. Even today, women's roles and women's rights continue to face changes and pressures. In establishing the series Women of the Past: Testimonies from Archaeology and History, the ambition is to build on the profound theoretical and empirical developments that have taken place over the last fifty years of gender-focused research and to explore them in a contemporary context. The aim of this series is to shed light on not just the outstanding and extraordinary women who were trendsetters of their time, but also the not quite so outstanding women, often overshadowed by outstanding men, and the ordinary women, those who simply went about their everyday life and kept their world turning in their own quiet way. This edited volume, Women of the Past, Issues for the Present, is the inaugural volume of the series and shows the wide span of the series chronologically, geographically, and socially in terms of the research presented. From Roman slaves to Viking women, and from medieval wet-nurses to the nineteenth-century wives who supported their archaeologist husbands on excavation, this groundbreaking volume opens a new vista in our understanding of the past. ‎Women in Indian Politics [Hardcover]‎

‎Recent years have witnessed a concern at the marginal presence of women in Politics. The concern has been voiced through international for a on the one hand and national and local level women groups and academics on the other. The involvement of women in politics in now regarded as an important factor for a healthy democracy. No democracy can be termed as healthy, if half on the population does not participate in the political process. It is also being increasingly realized that participation as mere voters is not enough. It has to be followed by large scale participation in the policy-formulation and decision making process. This book is an attempt at analyzing the problems related to women’s political participation in the Indian context. ‘Gender’ and ‘patriarchy’ have been used as the conceptual framework. Plates are lithographs on a vellum type paper with original hand coloring heightened with gum Arabic.

Two original antique prints from 'Moeurs Usages Et Costumes De Tous Les Peuples Du Monde' by Auguste Wahlen. The plate illustrations are brightly colored and intricately detailed characterization of the traditional costumes of a Persian Nobleman and woman of Iran Persia. The Persian nobleman's costume entails a vibrant red fur-lined coat which covers a gold-colored ensemble topped off with a matching fur hat. The text accompanying the illustration is in Dutch roughly translating to "Persian noble from the state". The Persian Woman is depicted in tradition costume as imagined by Europeans in the 1800's. The woman is shown reclining on a bed of patterned cushions holding a hookah in her right hand. She is captured in a rich red-colored pant a green and white striped top with gold-colored embroidery and an embellished royal blue hat to compliment the coat of the same color. The text below reads: "Dama Persa - Asia" Persian Lady - Asia. Both prints are in good condition and very decorative. unknown‎
