Printed on rectos only with exception of final leaf. Accompanied by chromolithographic upper panel of original box lid or what may be a printer’s proof. Very good.</p> <p>Chromolithographic calendar commemorating the American Revolution printed by Boston lithographers L. Prang & Co. The calendar was designed at the New York School of Applied Design for Women by Jeannette van Salisbury. This design credit appears on the last leaf.</p> <p>The 1896 patriotic calendar was issued under the auspices of the New York City Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution D.A.R. Each shield-shaped diecut leaf presents one month’s calendar accompanied by a chromolithographic depiction of the seal of one of the thirteen original states. The states’ seals are shown in the order they ratified the Constitution. The title leaf shows the obverse of the Great Seal of the United States—the coat of arms depicting the eagle shield olive branch and arrows. </p> <p>On the verso of the final leaf is a table of Revolutionary War patriotic holidays. These dates—labeled “The Days We Celebrateâ€â€”are printed in red within the calendar. Holidays here in calendar order include: Battle of Cowpens Surrender of Fort Ticonderoga Battle of Bunker Hill the Declaration of Independence Surrender of Burgoyne the Annapolis Tea Party the Evacuation of New York and the Battle of Trenton.</p> unknown
