Émile Brouwet II 2 168.Half black shagreen binding smooth spine decorated with gilt and blind fillets title lettered lengthwise in gilt joints and caps rubbed title repeated on the upper cover paper labels pasted to the lower left corner of the upper cover and the upper left corner of the inside back cover bookplate pasted to the inside back cover original front wrapper preserved corners worn mid-19th-century binding.Some light foxing.The five finely line-engraved plates by Cavelier and Pierron after drawings by Pierre-Paul Prudhon bring together a selection of pieces of imperial furniture.The first set a firescreen a dressing table with its mirror an armchair and a washstand was executed in vermeil with lapis inlays and presented to Empress Marie-Louise on 15 August 1810. This important commission was the joint work of the chaser-founder Thomire awarded a gold medal at the Exhibition of 1806 and the silversmith Odiot. The three plates devoted to it preserve its memory as the ensemble was largely melted down in 1832.The final two plates depict the celebrated cradle of the King of Rome in vermeil mother-of-pearl and burgau shell the fruit of the same two craftsmen which was presented by the City of Paris on 5 March 1811 before the arrival of the imperial child and is now preserved in Vienna.Thomire alone later produced a second example in elm burr and gilt bronze following the same design and faithfully reproducing certain elements such as the two bas-reliefs of the Seine and the Tiber. Limited first edition thus illustrated by Laboureur master of interwar French engraving - handsomely bound by a contemporary French woman binder Marie-Louis H. Farge. First published in 1918 LES SILENCES DU COLONEL BRAMBLE was a popular novel about a French officer working as an interpreter with the British during World War I and based on Maurois's real experiences. Marie-Louis H. Farge's work has touches of fin-de-siècle aesthetics mixed with the harder geometries of modernism. A 1929 notice in ARTS ET MÉTIERS GRAPHIQUES PARIS for an exhibition of around fifty bindings by Farge remarks on her unusual combinations of tools and ornaments. Laboureur was a highly acclaimed engraver of the same era his limited editions highly sought and often serving as the foundation for fine bindings as here. 9'' x 6.25''. Contemporary half goatskin by Marie-Louise H. Farge spine stamped in gilt and blind. Marbled endpapers top edge gilt. Original wrappers bound in. Illustrated with 15 engravings by Laboureur. 243 3 pages. One of 350 copies on Arches paper total limitation 500. Touch of wear to joints some light foxing to text. Original Vintage Unsigned Photo of Bourbon-Parma Princess of Bulgaria 1870-1899 wife of Ferdinand I
showing her head and shoulders 2¼" x 1½" mounted on card 5" x 3½" no place no date circa She was the eldest daughter of Robert I the last reigning Duke of Parma. She became Princess-consort of Bulgaria upon her marriage to Ferdinand of Bulgaria the then prince-regnant who became Tsar after the Bulgarian Declaration of Independence in 1908 . She was the mother of Tsar Boris III of Bulgaria. unknown

Unsigned original group photograph showing her and the Prince Princess of Schleswig-Holstein 1872-1956 Lady President of the Order of Mercy youngest daughter of Princess Helena and grand-daughter of Queen Victoria and her husband ARIBERT Prince of Anhalt 1864-1933
outside the garden door of a mansion annotated underneath by the hostess as "Papa Mama Self" that the others present are the Duke and Duchess of Connaught Princess Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein Col. Egerton Lord Bingham Sir Hugo Wemyss & the German Ambassador Count Paul Metternich no date c. a trifle worn at two corners identifications attached to the back A very unusual photo as Princess Marie Louise and her husband Prince Aribert were rarely photographed together and the Prince was caught in a compromising position with another man. After that incident Queen Victoria sent an open telegram requesting that her grand-daughter come home to her. From 1891-1900 the Princess was "Princess Aribert of Anhalt" but the marriage was dissolved to suit a new family law of that house. In 1917 she gave up her German titles and took the style of Princess Marie Louise. Apparently taken near Portsmouth. Attached to the back with the identifications is a note "walked home from Eastney" home of the Royal Marine Artillery "with Papa. Richard came up at 5 o'clock from the Resolution for 5 minutes". unknown
