‎Rare collection complète sur papier albuminé au format « carte de visite » des dépêches télégraphiques allemandes de la Guerre de 1870 conforme à l'édition sur papier ordinaire publiée à Berlin vers 1871 sous le titre "Sämmtliche Kriegs-Depeschen 1870-1871. Abdruck der Depeschen des Königl. Polizei-Präsidii zu Berlin". La première édition avait paru au format in-folio (36 x 23,5 cm) sous le titre "Depeschen vom Kriegs-Schauplatz. Offizielle militärische Nachrichten". Portrait et adresses au peuple et à l'armée du Kaiser Guillaume Ier suivis de 189 dépêches numérotées (un même numéro peut correspondre à deux dépêches) du 31 juillet 1870 au 3 mars 1871. Une traduction française fut publiée chez Lachaud à Paris en 1871 sous le titre La guerre de 1870-1871. Documents officiels allemands. Collection des dépêches télégraphiques du quartier général allemand, de S. M. le roi de Prusse à la reine Augusta, etc. etc. du 31 juillet 1870 au 5 février 1871. Traduction W. Filippi. ‎Remarquable récit embarqué d'un commandant du génie dans la Guerre franco-prussienne, parti de Montpellier le 23 juillet 1870, prisonnier à Berlin le 14 septembre suivant.Samedi 23 juillet - La 6ème compagnie de sapeurs du 2ème Régiment du Génie, que je commandais forte de 4 officiers, 89 sapeurs à pied, 8 sapeurs conducteurs avec 2 voitures de section et 12 chevaux, devait partir à 11 heures du matin par le chemin de fer pour se rendre de Montpellier à Phalsbourg. Ce journal inédit recomposé en 1873 en forme de mémoires montre les opérations, les marches des sapeurs chargés d'ouvrir les voies d'accès pour les fantassins, détruire les pièges, fabriquer et poser des pièges, des obstacles à la marche des fantassins ennemis. «Les outils portatifs sont loin d'être commodes. Il faut trop de temps pour les sortir de l'étui, les emmancher etc. Dès la première rampe, je fis charger des outils ordinaires sur les chevaux de bât, et le travail marcha bien plus rapidement. » (p. 65). Après les premiers combats dans les environs de Sarreguemines, la 6e compagnie doit rallier le camp de Châlons le 20 août où la seconde partie de l’armée française commandée par le maréchal de Mac-Mahon, devait se rassembler pour tenter de renforcer l’armée de Bazaine. Passé par Rethel, la compagnie se trouve le 27 août à Buzancy où les deux armées ont un violent engagement de cavalerie. Le corps français du général de Failly avait envoyé une reconnaissance vers Buzancy pour y faire quelques prisonniers et obtenir des nouvelles. Le 30 août, l'armée campe à Beaumont. « Au moment où la Compagnie forme ses rangs, les obus commencent à pleuvoir sur le village et il n'y avait pas 1/4 d'heure que le général Goze me disait de faire faire la soupe. Déjà cette surprise nous coûtait cher. Les 11e et 46e avaient perdu un nombre considérable d'officiers et de soldats dans les tentes même qu'il sont obligés d'abandonner ainsi que les sacs. Les balles, les obus sont tombés à l'improviste, par milliers sur le camp (…) Les généraux de Failly et Goze ont encouru ce jour-là une terrible responsabilité et à mon avis ils doivent rendre un compte sévère de leur conduite dans la journée du 30 août 1870 ! ». La bataille de Beaumont également appelé surprise de Beaumont ou encore bataille de Beaumont-Mouzon se déroula le 30 août à Beaumont-en-Argonne, dans les Ardennes françaises. Elle opposa le 5e corps d'armée de l'armée de Châlons du général de Failly, à l'armée de la Meuse du Prince royal de saxe. Les Français, surpris dans leur campement, sont repoussés jusqu'à Mouzon. Le corps d'armée de Failly est écrasé et découvre l'armée de Châlons de Mac-Mahon, en marche sur Sedan. « Je continue à grimper la côte avec mes trois hommes, nous nous arrêtons à hauteur de deux batteries qui venaient d'ouvrir leur feu, dans un champ où des zouaves faisaient tranquillement cuire leur soupe, en disant qu'ils en avaient bien vu d'autres ! Je regard alors un peu ce qui se passe. De l'autre côté de la Meuse, à 2 kilomètres environ de Mouson, je vois une longue ligne de batteries faisant feu sur le village ; j'estime à 100 le nombre des pièces prussiennes qui tiraient en ce moment et 12 de nos pièces seulement leur répondaient (…) quelqu'un dit que l'ordre est de se diriger sur Sedan (…) En sortant de dîner je trouve le colonel de Brevans qui me donne le commandement de 256 hommes de la réserve (31 août) ». Sedan, Jeudi 1er septembre. « Je m'aperçois que c'est une véritable déroute qui commence. Les obus nous arrivent de trois côtés à la fois. Deux sapeurs sont blessés un à la tête l'autre à la main, bientôt les balles se mêlent à la mitraille ; pendant que je cause avec le fourrier Houber appuyé sur son fusil une balle vient s'incruster dans la crosse de son arme (…) 2 septembre Nous sommes prisonniers (lecture des articles la capitulation) On vient nous dire qu'il faut aller rejoindre notre division au camp d'Yges » Le 3 septembre, environ 80 000 hommes sont conduits sur la presqu'île d'Iges et parqués pratiquement sans abris et sans vivres. Les prisonniers partent pour l'Allemagne destination Berlin, en passant par Nancy où ils sont acclamés. L'explicit est emprunté à Casimir Delavigne (Messéniennes, I.
