With frontispiece portrait of the author. Israel Ashendorf (19091956) , Yiddish poet, short story writer, and dramatist. Ashendorf grew up and lived in Lemberg (Lwow) , Galicia (now Lviv, Ukraine) , until World War II, when he fled to Uzbekistan. He spent five years in Paris and immigrated to Argentina in 1953. In Buenos Aires he served as supervisor of Jewish secular schools, taught Hebrew and Yiddish literature, and contributed to the Yidishe Tsaytung. His first poems were published in 1927, and thereafter he contributed to Yiddish periodicals in Europe, the Americas, and Israel. In 1929, he was co-editor of the literary journal Tsushtayer. Collections of his poetry were published in 1937, 1939, 1941, 1950, and 1956. His biblical dramas Der Meylekh Shoel (King Saul, 1948) and Der Meylekh Dovid (King David, 1956) express a pessimistic worldview. The posthumous collection Letste Shriftn (Last Writings, 1958) includes his poems and short stories. (EJ, 2007) Subjects: Yiddish Poetry. OCLC lists 20 copies. br. Nell'ottobre del 1940 un esercito italiano forte di 200.000 uomini invase la Grecia dal confine albanese, in un territorio ampio e poco difeso. La Grecia contava però sul sopporto della Gran Bretagna, inizialmente solo con le forze aeree e navali, ma poi anche tramite truppe inviate dall'Africa del Nord. Il comandante greco Papagos era quindi superiore per numero ed equipaggiamento: ebbe dunque agevolmente successo nell'arrestare gli italiani e addirittura riuscì a ricacciarli in Albania e a metterli sulla difensiva. Fu ciò a motivare Hitler a inviare rinforzi agli italiani in difficoltà, rinviando la pianificata invasione dell'Unione Sovietica. Tavole a colori e fotografie rafforzano il testo nella puntuale descrizione delle truppe coinvolte, parte essenziale di questo studio completo su uno dei conflitti dimenticati della Seconda guerra mondiale.

First Edition with portrait frontispiece 26 plates on 17 and 62 folding maps 2 large on japon fore-edges lightly dust-soiled; original regimental blue cloth upper board blocked with regimental badge in silver backstrip lettered in silver blue top expertly rebacked with original backstrip laid down a very good bright crisp clean copy. Complete with errata leaf. The standard record of the regiment's service in the Great War in which eleven battalions were involved. Includes ROH honours and decorations MIDs units and their COs depots and POW funds 'Well above the average of regimental histories in interest. He has done his best to procure information from officers who served with the regiment to supplement the generally scant and laconic accounts of the war diaries' Falls.
