Janovitz Fulvio
La pietra d'identificazione. Memorie e ricordi (1938-1945)
br. "La pietra d'identificazione" è una risposta a quell'interrogativo che dalla fine nel '45 dell'incubo della persecuzione razziale nazifascista Fulvio Janovitz si è sempre posto: perché sono sopravvissuto? Rendere testimonianza perché si sappia e non si dimentichi, finché ancora è possibile farlo, prima che si completi il naturale ricambio generazionale. Una delle ultime voci di chi quegli anni ha vissuto e sofferto.

Janusz Gumkowski, Kazimierz Leszczynski
POLAND UNDER NAZI OCCUPATION
1st edition, 12mo, original wrappers, with dust jacket, 219 pages. This book provides a condensed picture of the Nazi occupation in Poland. It is based on documents collected by the Main Commission for the Investigation of Nazi Crimes in Poland. The occupation of Poland by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union during the Second World War (1939-1945) began with the invasion of Poland in September 1939, and formally concluded with the defeat of Nazism by the Allies in May 1945. Throughout the entire course of foreign occupation, the territory of Poland was divided between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. In summer-autumn of 1941 the lands annexed by the Soviets were overrun by Nazi Germany in the course of the initially successful German attack on the USSR. After a few years of fighting, the Red Army was able to repel the invaders and drive the Nazi forces out of the USSR and across Poland from the rest of Eastern and Central Europe. Both occupying powers were equally hostile to the existence of sovereign Poland, her culture and the Polish people, aiming at their destruction. Before Operation Barbarossa, Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union coordinated their Poland-related policies, most visibly in the four Gestapo-NKVD Conferences, where the occupants discussed plans for dealing with the Polish resistance movement and future destruction of Poland. About 6 million Polish citizens - nearly 21.4% of Poland's population - died between 1939 and 1945 as a result of the occupation, half of whom were Polish Jews. Over 90% of the death toll came through non-military losses, as most of the civilians were targeted by various deliberate actions by Germans and the Soviets. Overall, during German occupation of pre-war Polish territory, 1939-1945, the Germans murdered 5, 470, 000 - 5, 670, 000 Poles, including nearly 3, 000, 000 Jews. This volume is profusely illustrated with numerous b/w photographic reproductions. Dust jacket has some wear, especially on the spine, internally very good condition, Good Condition Overall (AC-4-17)

Janz Oliver
1914-1918. La Grande Guerra
ill., ril.

JAPAN WORLD WAR II PROPAGANDA Manning FE. mapmaker. F. E.
Target Tokyo. Newsmap for the Armed Forces. Monday October 18 1943. 214th Week of the War - 96th Week of U.S. Participation.
Washington D.C.: Army Air Forces. 10-18- 1943. Color poster / map 47 x 35 1/2 inches 120 x 90 cm folding as issued now professionally mounted on linen backing. Wear and a little paper loss along the fold lines has been infilled light toning to lower centrefold; the poster presents very well with bright color. Stunning image of a hemispherical view with Japan at the centre encompassing the area from Iran in the west Australia in the south and as far as the west coast of the U.S. at the east of the map. The map maker is F.E. Manning one of the distinguished news illustrators of the war in a style very similar to that of Richard Edes Harrison. There is a scale along the lower edge which was intended to be clipped and used to measure distances of places on the map from Tokyo. Text reads: "This map is a photographic view of the world with the center at Tokyo. Thus with the detachable scale distances can be measured along any line running thru Tokyo. It should be noted that an inch at the center represents less mileage than an inch closer to the edges. The detachable scale has been designed to compensate for this and should be used only with the center at Tokyo. The photographic process used in making this map makes all distances measured with the tape approximate only. Distances are shown in statute miles. Lines between key cities do not represent regular air routes in all cases. They show distances between points that do not fall on a line going thru the center of the projection." The Newsmap posters were displayed in offices and factories to keep the American public updated with news of the war and to encourage their participation in the winning of it. . JAPAN; WORLD WAR II
Archive of information on Japanese artillery tactics and operations.
South-east Asia: 1942-45. The 9-inch gun is believed to have been mounted. in the Japanese Golf Course grounds A far-reaching archive assembled by an artillery officer attached to GHQ India including confidential intelligence and technical summaries and documents as well as material reproduced from War Information Circular issued by Military Intelligence GHQ India and other friendly and enemy sources. Organized into sections the information in these binders is very detailed and concerns the structure of artillery groups tactics and deployment and particular campaigns. For example a section on the attack on Hong Kong notes "The Japs were adept at dragging guns to the tops of hills and siting them in positions very difficult to locate. Ammunition was plentiful and was maintained by forced local Chinese labour. Any coolie failing to work up to Japanese expectations was shot out of hand. The 9-inch gun is believed to have been mounted on a previously and secretly prepared concrete mounting in the Japanese Golf Course grounds or even in the Club House on the mainland" Vol. 1 f. 9. Other material offers technical data and specifications for different guns and shells and included are pages from Periodical Technical Summary a restricted briefing issued by military intelligence in India. Supporting the text are photographs taken from other sources skilled technical drawings of weaponry and diagrams and sketch maps. The collection offers a forensic perspective on the conduct of Japanese artillery offensives in south-east Asia and the channels through which Allied personnel aggregated important strategic and technical information. The compiler may be either Captain J. E. Lee RA GHQ India Counter Battery Pool or Captain David Rogers RA GHQ Counter Battery Team 1 the recipient and addressee of a letter in this collection. Together 3 quarto springback binders and loose material. Original green or brown cloth laid-down title label housing several hundred sheets of bound-in and loose material including notes and documents in typescript letterpress and manuscript sketch maps and diagrams and illustrations. Material actively used and therefore creased marked and annotated a few items split and soiled: a very good working collection. hardcover

Japanese Internment World War II
WWII Japanese Internment Camp- Departure Check List From Attests to The Internment of Entire Families
World War II Original Departure Document from the closing of the camps. Single page typed representing the difference between interment and freedom for forcibly relocated Japanese-American citizens. Has spaces for the Date Time Name of the Family and a checklist before departure. The fact that entire families were forcibly relocated is reflected in the simple question "Will Individual or Family Depart As Scheduled"

About 120000 people were incarcerated and interned in the camps from 1942-1946 of which 30000 were children. Colonel Karl Bendetsen the architect behind the program went so far as saying anyone with "one drop of Japanese blood" qualified. In 1943 Secretary of the Interior Harold L. Ickes wrote "the situation in at least some of the Japanese internment camps is bad and is becoming worse rapidly." Many camps were built quickly by civilian contractors during the summer of 1942 based on designs for military barracks making the buildings poorly equipped for cramped family living. Throughout many camps twenty-five people were forced to live in space built to contain four. Armed guards were posted at the camps which were all in remote desolate areas far from population centers. Medical conditions and in-camp schooling was similarly poor. The phrase "shikata ga nai" loosely translated as "it cannot be helped" was commonly used to summarize the interned families' resignation to their helplessness throughout these conditions an attitude adopted to shield children from the massive trauma experienced by their parents. Provenance: Emily Brown a general's daughter who worked for the camps and wrote reports on their closing. Toning. Two hole punches presumably from original clipboard at top. Clean. In near-fine condition. unknown books
