He claimed descent from Samurai Shijo Kingo and he was an integral part of preserving Japanese artwork. . As Commander-in-Chief of the Combined Fleet during the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905 he successfully confined the Russian Pacific naval forces to Port Arthur before winning a decisive victory over a relieving fleet at Tsushima in May 1905. Seoul & Chemulpo was the location of the Japanese fleet. Essentially locking the Russian fleet in a cul-de-sac at Port Arthur. . All of Korea and Port Arthur are shown with the Russian fleet. . The Japanese islands are to the upper right and right side. . 5.Full single page article "THE THEATRE OF WAR: A description of the region illustrated in the map on the preceding pages" by Cyrus C. Adams. With center chart showing a statistical chart comparing the "Effective Naval Strength at the Opening of Hostilities.' Comparing naval vessels number of ships on station military strength area &population finance and table of distances. . 6. There is a small bit of mend on the back side of this page over page 2 illustration in its lower left corner impact is minimal. . br. Nel maggio del 1800 la seconda discesa dell'esercito francese in Italia, guidato da Napoleone, chiude l'esperienza del governo austro-russo in Piemonte. Nel clima di una generale carestia, le condizioni di vita di gran parte della popolazione toccano un infimo livello: miseria e fame alimentano la rabbia della povera gente e generano un generale rifiuto dell'ideologia giacobina e la volontà di resistenza contro l'esercito invasore. Abusi commessi da più parti finiscono con il produrre forti dissensi anche in seno alla stessa comunità dei "patrioti". La situazione, di lì a pochi mesi, si fa incandescente: nel gennaio 1801 scoppia la grande rivolta degli Zoccoli - la seconda, dopo quella del maggio 1799 -, che nei suoi obiettivi ha soprattutto quello di una radicale opposizione ai "giacobini", considerati colpevoli di curare i propri interessi a danno dei poveri. Domata nel sangue dalle truppe francesi e dai volontari della guardia nazionale, la sollevazione lascia spazio a una scia di atti di brigantaggio (che è di natura politica, antifrancese e antirepubblicana), che resteranno endemici per molto tempo.

Collis a colonel with the 114th Pennsylvania Infantry published this collection of documents regarding the character of one Frederick Fernandez Cavada 1832-71 to protest Cavada's appointment as United States Consul at Trinidad de Cuba. Cavada was cashiered for "behaving himself in a cowardly manner in the presence of the enemy by absenting himself from the battle-field" at Fredericksburg but was reinstated. Cavada displayed similar cowardice at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg but resigned before he could be tried. Whether the publication of Collis's pamphlet affected Cavada's Consul appointment we have not been able to determine. Most unusual. First edition. DORNBUSCH I P 275A. SABIN 14457. Antonio Collisani, prigioniero di guerra negli Stati Uniti, racconta le circostanze della sua cattura, il viaggio e la traversata dell'Atlantico, la vita nel campo. Iolanda Lo Valvo registra avvenimenti e sentimenti quotidiani, soffermandosi sui particolari della "prigione" costituita da una cittadina di provincia. Entrambi scrivono per far parte, ciascuno all'altro, delle proprie esperienze durante la separazione forzata, cosicché i loro testi si rispondono e corrispondono. Il loro alternarsi procede coi tempi sfasati dei silenzi postali, ma obbedisce ai ritmi coerenti scanditi dai fatti drammatici di quei giorni, specie quando la Sicilia fu invasa e percorsa dall'esercito degli Alleati. Il dialogo fittizio ricostruisce e denuncia l'assurdo della guerra, con le sue surreali "normalità", elevandosi a una dimensione corale.

Rare second edition of this "memorandum" translated into Ottoman Turkish by Mahmud Sevket Pasha, is one of the works of Baron von der Goltz (Pasha) who was invited by Sultan Abdulhamid II upon the request of Germany to modernize the Ottoman army after the defeat in the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878). In the first years of modernization in the Ottoman army, the army was attempted to be compared to Napoleon's army, and its regulations were translated and organized accordingly. Many regulations, memoranda, and "layihas" were translated from French. However, when the Germans defeated the French in 1871, the German military system was regarded as superior, and from 1882 onwards, German advisers began to be recruited for the improvement of the army. Since the arrival of Major Goltz in 1883, German training guides and some German instructions were translated into Turkish for use in military schools. One of the most important instructions translated into Turkish was this book includes the basic military issues with many military plans. Goltz Pasha was a Prussian Field Marshal and military writer who had been in service of the Ottoman Empire two times soon after the Russo-Turkish War in 1877-78 and during the WW1 (1915-16) to reorganize the Ottoman Army.
