L'opera era composta da undici volumi, siamo in possesso del volume quinto parte terza che descrive la storia dalla fine della prima guerra mondiale allo scoppio della seconda (1919-1939). Tra gli argomenti trattati: il fallimento della pace, crisi sociali e ripercussioni politiche, lo scambio delle parti, il mondo va a destra, la crisi economica mondiale e le sue conseguenze, l'orizzonte si fa buio ecc... All'interno sono presenti dodici tavole fuori testo e numerose foto in bianco e nero. In buone condizioni. Copertina in tela editoriale in ottime condizioni generali con lievi usure ai margini e dorso. Legatura in buone condizioni. All'interno le pagine si presentano in ottime condizioni con fioriture. The work is made up of eleven volumes, we only have the fifth volume third part describing the history from the end of the first world war unitl the break out of the second world war (1919-1939). Between the issues treated: fialure of peace, social crisis and politica ripercussion, exchange of parts, the world in the right part, world economical crisis and its consequences, horizone is dark ecc... OTTIME CONDIZIONI, MAI SFOGLIATO, LIEVISSIMI SEGNI DEL TEMPO. ...Nel 1972, sempre con Garzanti, pubblicò il romanzo “W L’i…” che ottenne il Premio Campione per la narrativa. Si tratta di un libro singolare a forte caratterizzazione espressionista e visionaria, dove l’elemento autobiografico inteso come recupero memoriale da analessi si stempera nel flusso narrativo che, incentrato sulla battaglia navale di Matapan, offre una moderna scrittura concettosa e lirica insieme, complessa certamente, ma di sicuro valore letterario. De Vita era nato a Noto nel 1905 e si era laureato in Lettere a Napoli, allievo di Francesco Torraca, trattando una tesi su Ariosto. Diede inizio alla sua attività letteraria collaborando a “La Fiera Letteraria” di Umberto Fracchia, all’ “Italia Letteraria” e quindi fu redattore della pagina culturale della “Tribuna”, per passare al “Giornale d’Italia”, del quale fu corrispondente di guerra imbarcato sugli incrociatori della Regia Marina “Duilio”, “Cesare”, “Eugenio di Savoia”, partecipando a diverse imprese, tra cui la famosa battaglia di Capo Matapan che si risolse in un disastro per la nostra Marina. Da quella esperienza marinara nacque nel 1942, a guerra ancora in corso, una raccolta di racconti, “Il paradiso dei marinai” pubblicata da Garzanti. Nello stesso anno entrò al “Corriere della Sera”, con l’incarico di vice-caporedattore. Il sabato, racconta Salvatore Merlo nel suo libro “Fummo giovani soltanto allora”, egli partiva per Roma e rientrava puntualmente il lunedì sera. Andava a Roma a tenere i contatti col Partito comunista clandestino, ma anche a trovare la moglie, la pittrice Caterina Castellucci, detta Katy, insegnante all'Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma, che aveva sposato nel 1940. Nel 1946, sempre da Garzanti, uscì il romanzo “Io sono vivo”, singolare libro “di avventure e di pensiero” di ben 636 pagine, romanzo corale dove una folla di personaggi si sussegue e si insegue sotto lo stesso destino. Nel clima di rinnovamento e di riaffermazione di principi e di diritti del dopoguerra, mentre Vittorini nel settembre 1945 (subito appena cessate le funzioni del PWB, Psychological Warfare Branch, l’organo degli Alleati per il controllo della stampa) dava avvio all'esperienza del “Politecnico”, contemporaneamente Corrado De Vita, insieme a Michele Rago, ad Alfonso Gatto e a Mario Bonfantini dava inizio al “Milano-Sera” (agosto 1945), un quotidiano del pomeriggio che era, come scrive Vittorio Spinazzola “efficacemente moderno, all'altezza dei migliori esempi della stampa europea per vivacità di impianto grafico, spregiudicatezza di scrittura, valorizzazione del dato fotografico”, sul modello del “Paris-Soir”. Il giornale, a cui collaborarono moltissimi scrittori, giornalisti e note personalità del tempo, ebbe vita fino al 1954. Nel 1949 De Vita fece nascere la COLIP (Cooperativa del Libro Popolare) sotto l’egida di “Milano Sera”, dando inizio alla “Universale Economica del Canguro”, la prima collana di libri economici del dopoguerra di formato tascabile, divisa in cinque sezioni: letteratura, storia e filosofia, scientifica, teatro, grandi avventure, ciascuna caratterizzata con un colore diverso. Ogni settimana un libro al costo di cento lire: opere di autori classici e contemporanei italiani e stranieri di ispirazione democratica e progressista anche in traduzione d’autore, con prefazioni serie e di qualità. In cinque anni pubblicò 200 libri, fin quando la collana venne rilevata da Giangiacomo Feltrinelli per diventare nel 1955 la famosa Universale Economica Feltrinelli. Successivamente De Vita andò a dirigere la casa editrice Parenti e poi le Edizioni Riunite, di cui fu Presidente. Ma la sua attività non fu soltanto di tipo editoriale e giornalistico. Nel 1972, sempre con Garzanti, pubblicò il romanzo “W L’i…” che ottenne il Premio Campione per la narrativa. Si tratta di un libro singolare a forte caratterizzazione espressionista e visionaria, dove l’elemento autobiografico inteso come recupero memoriale da analessi si stempera nel flusso narrativo che, incentrato sulla battaglia navale di Matapan, offre una moderna scrittura concettosa e lirica insieme, complessa certamente, ma di sicuro valore letterario. Nello stesso anno pubblicò, con prefazione di Carlo Bo, una raccolta di poesie dal titolo “Conoscenza di Stefano”, componimenti dedicati al figlio morto tragicamente, che ottenne il Premio Viareggio. Infine altra raccolta di liriche è “Sopra è la terra” del 1980, un libro di 300 pagine con un saggio introduttivo di Michele Rago. Spirito inquieto e geniale, Carlo Bo ha detto di lui che “era uno scrittore senza confini, senza limiti, portato a travolgere nel torrente della sua immaginazione i legami e i riferimenti con la realtà”. Si, veramente spirito inquieto e geniale come Vittorini (a cui per tanti aspetti l’attività culturale di De Vita somiglia, figli entrambi della stessa temperie), è stato sicuramente protagonista non secondario di uno straordinario momento storico e per questo, almeno dalla sua (e mia) Noto, e non solo di essa, non dovrebbe essere dimenticato. Morì a Roma nel 1987, due anni dopo la moglie.
