First World War Carbon copy of manuscript. entitled "Stunts by Fag End"
Without date or place. 3 pages 8vo. On three leaves of paper all creased discoloured and worn some fading with a few tears and pin holes. Lively humorous and well-written account of the army career of a skiver. 'Behold me then the next time in the trenches a Lewis Gunner <in going> my-self to be about to kill Bosches in neat little trenches of 47. As a matter of fact I did not kill one as I never fired the gun but we had one or two thrilling times. . January 1st. 1917 I became a member of the now famous Tank Corps. I said 'Goodbye' to Pack & rifle and received instead a kit bag & revolver it was one of my ambitions to possess a revolver But I was not happy for it was cold very very cold & I hate the cold. I was very thankful though to be out of the trenches where men were being frozen to death.' He then becomes a draughtsman for the Reconnaisance Office 'having an uncle and sic architect' before taking up 'yet another role for my Company R.O. had left his servant behind & so I stepped into his shoes & thus fulfilled the double duties of draughtsman and batman. This went on until just recently when my officer was wounded & went home to Blighty. I have now helped in a minor capacity the preparation for several big 'do's' & travelled hundreds of miles upon the trusty Triumph including one never to be forgotten joy ride to our Rest Camp by the sea where I spent eight days upon which was undoubtedly the best stunt of all viz. doing just what I liked.' Oorspronkelijk uitgevers omslag, 34x21cm, Nummers 1 + 2+ 3+ 5 en het laatste verschenen nummer 6. Nummer 4 ontbreekt, *** Uiterst zeldzaam tijdschrift. 1940 tot 1945: de Tweede Wereldoorlog. In 1939, op het ogenblik der mobilisatie maakte het 6de Linieregiment en het 28ste Linieregiment, ontstaan uit het 6de Linieregiment, deel uit van de 2de Infanteriedivisie. Het 36ste Linieregiment, dat ook uit het 6de Linie ontstond, maakte deel uit van de 14de Infanteriedivisie. Op 10 mei nam het 6de Linieregiment deel, onder bevel van kolonel-stafbrevethouder Godeau, aan de verdediging van de vesting Luik waar het de westondersector van hey Ourthe-Maas in de landstreek bezuiden Seraing bezette. Tijdens de nacht van 10 op 11 mei werd het regiment min het eerste bataljon, naar de Maas gebracht en westwaarts vervoerd. Op de 12de vonden wij het op de stelling Konings-Hooikt-Waver waar het de noorderondersector van de 2de Infanteriedivisie in de omgeving van Rijmenam-Keerbergen bezette. Het derde bataljon van het 28ste werd bij het 6de Linie gevoegd. Ondertussen had het eerste bataljon van het 6de zulke verliezen opgelopen dat men verplicht was deze eenheid te ontbinden. Op 16 mei 's avonds, trok het regiment zich terug achter het kanaal van Willebroek en kantonneerde 's anderendaags te Nieuwenrode. Op 18 mei, na een nieuwe aftocht legerde het in de streek van Schoonaarde. Op 19 mei, in het Gentse bruggehoofd, vatte het stelling in de zuiderondersector van de 2de Infanteriedivisie, rechts van het 5de Linie. Op 20 mei was er contact en de voorposten werden herhaaldelijk aangevallen. Op 21 mei bestormde de vijand Gijzenzele en de Betsberg; hij werd verdreven alhoewel zijn aandrang vooral te Gijzenzele doortastend was. Op 22 mei werd de aftocht ingezet in de richting van het afleidingskanaal van de Leie waar het regiment aanvankelijk in 3de echelon opgesteld werd. Op 26 mei werd het regiment door het 28ste Linieregiment in de zuiderondersector van de 2de Infanteriedivisie in de landstreek bewesten Merendree afgelost. Op 27 mei,'s avonds, nieuw terugtochtsbevel. Het regiment werd door de capitulatie verrast tussen Ruddervoorde en Wingene. Volgens een eerste raming bedroeg het aantal doden 2 officieren en 62 onderofficieren en soldaten. bron; ablhistoryforum.
