‎1864. unbound. fine. Union Navy A.L.S. 8vo. 2 pages August 27th 1864 Aboard the USS Elfin. Just three months before she would be destroyed by bombardment while in service on the Tennessee & Cumberland Rivers. Letter from a sailor who is trying to get his Land Grant application to Wisconsin but he can't raise the $11.00 application fee on his ship. In part: "I received the papers alright and I signed an affidavit before my Commanding Officer - and I signed them and sent them off but could not get $11.00 aboard of the boat. The Captain signed them also. Write to my wife and have her send the eleven dollars down to Menasha before the 20th of September. I was transferred from the 18th Wisconsin Infantry Co. into the United States Navy as I suppose they could get Soldiers easier than they could get Sailors. I think I can serve my country better here than I could in the land service as I have formerly been to sea and I am an able seaman at present." Fine condition.<br/> <br/> unknown‎

Established in 1918 by Woodrow Wilson the campaign brought together seven organizations--the YMCA the YWCA the American Library Association the War Camp Community Service the Knights of Columbus the Jewish Welfare Board and the Salvation Army--to form a group fundraising effort with the hope of raising over $170 million for the war. The canvas banner depicts a red and white striped top hat on a blue background. The hat is full of dollar bills and coins symbolizing the collective fund that had been created and encouraging citizens to donate. The poster is in very good condition. Folds as issued. Philadelphia 1862.<br/> <br/> On the front page in the first one and half columns on the left and concluding in two full columns on the last page is an article on the February 5 1862 United States Senate vote to expel Senator Jesse Bright of Indiana who was the most senior Democrat in the Senate. On March 1 1861 Senator Bright wrote a letter of introduction for Thomas B. Lincoln a Texas arms dealer. The letter was addressed to Jefferson Davis. In July 1861 Lincoln was captured with the letter by Union troops as he attempted to enter the Confederacy. Senator Bright was accused of being a traitor because of the letter. The proceedings of the Senate and impressions of the vote by Senators are included in the article. Senator Bright was expelled by a vote of 32 to 14. The yeas and nays votes with each Senator listed are on the front page. Jesse Bright was the fourth Senator from a Union state to be expelled during the Civil War.<br/> <br/> unknown‎

Offset lithograph in both color and black and white. 35" x 47".<br/> <br/> Newsmap was a weekly educational and propaganda poster published by the US War Department during and immediately after World War II. It ran in four volumes from April 1942 to March 1946 after which an additional eight issues were published. Newsmaps were not issued for general distribution the posters were distributed to military installations as well as government and civilian groups working on War Department projects. Along with text denoting the progress of the war across the various fronts this poster includes maps and photographs from the campaigns in Italy and New Guinea. September 1943 had seen both Italy's surrender and the Allied landings on the Italian mainland at Salerno. This poster shows an aerial view of Naples American troops unloading at Salerno and a series of four photographs of an Allied smokescreen covering Palermo Sicily. The reverse shows an educational cartoon informing of the danger of unexploded ammunition. Some wear along original folds as issued. Good condition.<br/> <br/> US War Department unknown‎

First Edition<br/> <br/> A record of the charges presented against Private Reuben Stout Company "K" 60th Indiana Volunteers who is accused of killing in violation of the laws of war and desertion. On March 14 1863 Stout shot and murdered Solomon Huffman in Madison Indiana. Huffman was trying to arrest Stout who was a deserter at the time. ".The Court does therefore sentence him Stout.to forfeit all pay that may be due him and that he be shot to death with musketry." Abraham Lincoln upheld Stout's execution.<br/> <br/> unknown‎

‎Readfield 1839. unbound. 1 page 11 x 7.75 inches Readfield February 22 1839. Outstanding and historically important autographed document regarding a dispute between Maine and New Brunswick signed "Samuel K. Currier" Adjutant Regiment Artillery 1st Brigade - 2nd Division. In part: "In obedience to General Orders of the 19th instituted and herewith transmitted.of the 21st.a draft of the Regiment Artillery is ordered to be made with all possible dispatch as follows.vis.Capt. A. P. Arnolds and two sergeants; George W. Armstrong from the D Company; Lieutenant Augustan Lords - one fifer and one drummer; Ira Portman of the A Company is detached. Capt. John Ford will draft from the A Company twenty privates.Lieutenant Fairbanks will draft from the Company B twenty privates. After the several commandants of the said companies shall have perfected their drafts they will forthwith report to Col. John Courier of the Regt. & Artily. in obedience to said Brigade Orders. The foregoing Orders are transmitted by command." Military documents pertaining to General Orders No. 7 are extremely rare and this example is in fine condition.<br/> <br/> The Aroostock War was a boundary dispute between the state of Maine and the Canadian province of New Brunswick in 1838-1839. High tensions and heated rhetoric led both sides to raise troops arm them and march them along the disputed border. At one point reports of British bringing up their Regular Army troops from the West Indies reports of the Mohawk Nation offering their services to Quebec and reports of New Brunswick forces gathering on the Saint John River resulted in the Issuance of General Order No. 7 on February 19 1839 calling for a general draft of Maine Militia. In essence Maine had become the only state to have ever declared war on another country. The grievance was ultimately settled through the Webster-Ashburton Treaty of 1842 establishing a definitive boundary between the countries giving most of the disputed area to Maine.<br/> <br/> unknown‎
