Privately Printed Limited Edition 1925. HB. Quarter black leather and blue cloth gilt lettering on front cover 8vo 101 pp. blue end papers. Illustrated with photographs. Written by the subjects' brother. Memorial of Walter H. Schulze born and raised in Kenilworth Illinois attended West Point class of 1917. Originally assigned to the cavalry Schulze managed to transfer to aviation and after training was attached to the 185th Squadron flying Sopwith Camels. After the armistice Schulze transferred to the 41st Aero Squadron and later to the 138th Squadron. On June 28 1919 Schulze was killed in a crash while delivering news of the signing of the peace treaty ending the war. Owner's bookplate on front paste-down tape residue on ffep. No marks in book. Leather backstrip shows considerable wear with 2" tear at joints at top and lacking 3/4" at bottom title handwritten on spine. Book condition Good. Privately Printed Limited Edition hardcover

Dinesen was a brother of the author Karen Blixen Isak Dinesen who wrote Out Of Africa. Merry Hell! an account of the author's wartime experiences was originally published in Danish in 1929. A Soldier Unafraid; Letters From The Trenches On The Alsatian Front
Boston: Little Brown and Company 1918. First Printing April 1918 of the First American Edition. HB. Blue cloth gilt lettering on front cover and spine 12mo xvi 110 pp. frontis portrait of the author. Cornet-Auquier 1887-1916 was a graduate of the University of Dijon. He was a professor at Glasgow when World War I began and as a French reservist was called to active duty in August 1914. He served as Captain in the 133rd Infantry Regiment in the Vosges and died March 2 1916 from shrapnel wounds suffered in combat. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre and made a Knight of the Legion of Honor. This book consists of letters sent to his family. Edited and translated with an introduction by Theodore Staton. No marks in book binding tight. Light moisture stain at top of ffep half-title and frontis. Covers clean but top edge of text block shows some soiling. Book condition VG. Battery C of the 107th saw action at the Vesle Sector August 13-18 1918 during the Oise-Aisne offensive August 18 to September 8 and in the Argonne Forest from September 26 to October 10 1918. The Battery was then transferred to Flanders and saw action in the Ypres-Lys Sector until November 11 1918. Illustrated with photographs of the officers of the battery and scenes of action. Harrisburg: Stackpole 1959. Very Good in a good dustjacket. Bound in full pictorial cloth. Octavo. Map-endpapers. 466pps. with numerous maps and illustrations. There is a lean to the spine and light dustspotting to the board-edges. Also a small abrasion at the top of the front pastedown and the original owner's gift inscription neatly-penned at the top of the second fep. Otherwise clean tight and bright; the pages are immaculate. The dustjacket glossy in a mylar sleeve has moderate chipping at the tips and the spine-ends with a couple of closed tears on either panel. The original price of $5.95 is intact on the front flap. SIGNED and inscribed by the author "with best wishes from another old Pennsylvania Guardsman." ".In the summer of 1862 Lincoln sought victory by constituting the Army of Virginia in the Warrenton area under Maj. Gen. John Pope to threaten Lee from that direction while McClellan continued to press against Richmond on the James River. But the Confederates more agile mentally and physically defeated Pope in detail first at Cedar Mountain then on a larger scale at Second Manassas Bull Run. Following a dramatic aftermath at Chantilly Lee invaded the North with Harrisburg as his initial objective. McClellan preempting command of the combined Federal forces followed Lee to Frederick thence over the western mountain passes where two battles were fought. Meantime Jackson circled around to capture Harper's Ferry after which he rejoined Lee on the Antietam where was fought the bloodiest single day of the war. McClellan should have won but his lethargy and errors caused the fight to end in a stalemate after which Lee retreated into Virginia. The author in addition to clarifying the flow of events gives in his analysis the reasons for what happened and brings into sharp relief the main characters of the drama." Letters From A Field Hospital With A Memoir Of The Author By Stephen Gwynn
London: Macmillan and Co 1916. Fourth Printing April 1916. HB. White blind ruled cloth gilt lettering on spine 12 mo 182 2 pp. Account by Dearmer 1872-1915 of her experiences serving with a hospital unit in Serbia during World War I. Dearmer was a writer and illustrator of children's books prior to the war. She was married to Percy Dearmer a theologian and social activist and when he volunteered to be Chaplain to a British Red Cross Ambulance unit Mabel Dearmer decided to accompany her husband and volunteered as a hospital orderly. After being in Serbia only three months she died of enteric fever in 1915. Her death and that of her younger son who fell at Gallipoli months later are commemorated with a war memorial fountain at Gloucestershire. No marks in book binding tight minor offsetting of endpapers from dust jacket. Covers show very light soiling chipping top of spine. In a plain tan dust jacket with black lettering and publisher's design on front cover and spine with publisher's other listings on rear panel. Price 2/6 Net on lower spine.
