Yellow cloth black lettering and Army Air Force insignia on front cover metal clasp binding 98 pp. Organized in sections dealing with Squadron Organization Duties of Officer Personnel Headquarters Section Squadron Inspection Department Squadron Supply and Transportation Section and Squadron Training and Academic Section. The First District Training Command was opened in November 1941 but was greatly expanded to 650 acres in 1942 at the start of World War II and served as a training base for airmen and crews. The base was closed in 1946. Previous owner's name Capt. Carlos Emmanuelli on front paste-down and stamp of Major Carlos Emmanuelli on front cover no other marks in book binding tight. Jenks 1894-1991 was from Manchester N.H. and a member of the class of 1915 at Harvard. He enlisted in the army when the U.S. entered World War I and was made a sergeant assigned to the Headquarters Company of General John J. Pershing. Arriving in France in June 1917 headquarters was first established in Paris but in September was moved to Chaumont. Jenks was allowed to travel extensively and presents an important account of civilian life in France during World War I. No marks in book binding tight. One plate detached but present. Translated from the unpublished French by Melanie Lind and with an introduction by Viscount Allenby. World War I account based on her diary of life at the Chateau De La Motte au Bois which the Baroness made available to the Allied Armies as a headquarters and refuge. The Chateau was never more than 10 miles behind the front lines but the Baroness refused to leave until 1918. She was referred to affectionately as "The Mother Of The British Army." Signed and inscribed by the author on the half-title page in French. The author is inviting the recipient of the book to visit her at her Paris home on the Rue de Longchamp. Laid in is a post card with the photo of the author having a picnic lunch at Ypres in 1928. Shown are Marshall Petain General Weygand the Prince of Wales and the author and on the rear of the card the author has written an explanation of the event.
