Le Merveilleux Voyage de la Goutte de Vitamine. Translated by Jeannette Marandon. Foreword byAndre Maurois

New York: Coordinating Council of French Relief Societies 1942 First edition of this children's book that was sold to raise money for the Coordinating Council of French Relief Societies CCFRS. "It often happens that my American friend say: 'Of course it is terrible to see French children starving. We long to do something about it. But do you really think we can without danger send them Vitamins and milk Can we be sure they will get it' The answer to this question has been given time after time by the American organizations that supervise the distribution; they know that the children and they alone receive the food; and they have many touching letters of thanks from the children themselves. Here is one of them" from the preface. Original wrappers lithographed in blue red and black. Light blue comb binding. . 8 in. x 5 in. . With seven full-page color lithographs. Aside from the printed preface text is reproduced from handwriting with children's handwriting above in French and the translator's handwriting below in English. The signatures of the children are reproduced on the last few pages Some light offsetting from color plates. A very good bright copy of a lovely book produced by French children during World War II. The present work was written and illustrated by a class of French children from five to six years. The story follows a drop of vitamin personified as a friendly American girl who travels across the ocean to aid children in occupied France. She ends her journey when she jumps into the mouth of a hungry child.
Coordinating Council of French Relief Societies,

[Mexican-American War]: [Anaya, Pedro Maria]
EL C. IGNACIO TRIGUEROS GOBERNDOR DEL DISTRITO FEDERAL. POR EL MINISTERIO DE GUERRA Y MARINA SE ME HA COMMUNICADO ED DECRETO SIGUIENTE. EL EXMO. SEÑOR PRESIDENTE SUSTITUTO SE HA SERVIDO DIRIGIRME EL DECRETO QUE SIGUE: PEDRO MARIA ANAYA PRESIDENTE SUSTITUTO DE LA REPUBLICA MEXICANA A TODOS SUS HABITANTES SABED: "QUE CONSIDERANDO QUE EL PERFIDO ENEMIGO DE LA NACION HA INVADIO VARIOS DE NUESTROS ESTADOS Y QUE INTENTA INVADIR OTROS.caption title and beginning of text
Mexico City April 28 1847. Broadside 19 x 12¼ inches. Two vertical and three horizontal folds. Dampstained. Bottom left corner torn away not affecting text and a small tear along one fold obscuring part of a word. Overall good plus. An unrecorded broadside decree from interim President of Mexico Pedro Maria Anaya with orders to prepare for invasion and siege from the United States. Jose Ignacio Gutierrez then Secretary of War and Navy communicated the present decree to Ignacio Trigueros Governor of the Federal District who authorized its publication.

This broadside published after the American siege and subsequent occupation of Veracruz and the defeat of Mexican forces at Cerro Gordo lays the foundation in eight articles for the Mexican people to thwart an expected siege by the United States. These articles include the ability of a Mexican territory to declare a siege in order to trigger military rule with the declaration then being approved by "the Supreme Government" in consultation with "gentlemen governors or political leaders." Once a state of siege is declared in our translation "The fortresses all artillery points and the headquarters of the divisions that operate against the enemy will be considered in a state of siege." The decree then states that once a siege has been declared the army may use its authority to gather food and supplies from the area can occupy or destroy buildings as required and that all male inhabitants between the ages of 15 and 60 years would be required to "maintain order and internal security.to convey food and ammunition to points of attack.to put out fires caused by enemy fire" and if required "to take up arms." Once the siege has ended the commander in charge of the military must present a full report to the Supreme Government of all operations within fifteen days of the conclusion of hostilities for adjudication to determine if the commander "exceeded or abused" their power.

This unrecorded broadside is important documentation showing the measures which Mexico was willing to take in defense of its homeland against the United States during the Mexican-American War at an important juncture during the conflict. unknown
