1984. framed. very good. Typed signed letter from American playwright August Wilson in 1984. Great content as the letter reads more like a poem. Begins "Dear Friend." and goes on to mention "Geogorio who is first mate" which refers to G.L Fuentes a fisherman and the first mate of the Pilar the boat belonging to the American writer Ernest Hemingway. Fuentes is credited by some as a model for Hemingway's protagonist Santiago in The Old Man and the Sea. Wilson goes on to say "The search has led to you.Speaking for myself and the other New Dramatists your contribution is much appreciated." Framed along with a black and white portrait photograph of Wilson. Please inquire for more information.<br/> <br/> August Wilson Frederick August Kittel Jr. was an American playwright. He has been referred to as the "theater's poet of Black America". He is best known for a series of 10 plays collectively called The Pittsburgh Cycle or The Century Cycle which chronicle the experiences and heritage of the African-American community in the 20th century. Plays in the series include Fences 1987 and The Piano Lesson 1990 each of which won Wilson the Pulitzer Prize for Drama as well as Ma Rainey's Black Bottom 1984 and Joe Turner's Come and Gone 1988. In 2006 Wilson was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame. New Dramatists is an organization of playwrights founded in 1949 and located at 424 West 44th Street between Ninth and Tenth Avenues in the Hell's Kitchen Clinton neighborhood of Manhattan New York City.<br/> <br/> unknown

Il primo a scoprirla, e in parte a viverla, fu il professor James Murray, anima e responsabile del maestoso progetto. Dopo anni di lavoro, Murray si rese infatti conto di come una parte consistente dei lemmi - che qualsiasi «letterato» poteva redigere, su base volontaria - arrivassero alla redazione da un unico posto in Inghilterra, e recassero in calce sempre la stessa firma: «W.C. Minor». A questo punto Murray decise di incontrare il suo prezioso e infaticabile collaboratore, salvo scoprire che il luogo da cui tutte quelle lettere partivano era Broadmoor, e il loro autore uno degli ospiti più in vista del temibile manicomio. Sì, anni prima, per le strade di Londra, W.C. Minor - un medico militare reduce dalla Guerra di Secessione, e vittima di una gravissima sindrome paranoide - aveva ucciso un passante, e adesso era rinchiuso in una cella dove gli era stato concesso di trasferire la sua collezione di libri antichi. L'incontro fra questi due personaggi era già materia per un grande romanzo vittoriano. A Simon Winchester, in fondo, non è rimasto che scriverlo.
