Beide Generäle starben noch in demselben Jahre . . an der Cholera. Wenn der Verfasser sich erlaubte als Doppelgänger des Generals von Clausewitz aufzutreten, so hatt er dazu folgende triftige Gründe. C. hat bekanntlich sehr umfängliche schriftstellerische Arbeiten hinterlassen, die aber erst nach seinem Tode und zum größten Theil unvollendet dem Drucke übergen worden sind. Richtige Ansichten über die Natur des Krieges zu verbreiten und hieraus folgerungen für dessen zweckmäßige Führung abzuleiten, zugleich aber einseitigen Theorien entgegen zu treten, war zweifellos die Aufgabe welche er sich gestellt hat. . . Auch der Verfasser erkennt in ihm seinen geistigen Mentor; . . So keimte die Idee: den Verstorbenen selbstredend und als Bewohner eines höheren Weltkreises einzuführen. ... (Auszug aus dem Vorwort).
