‎Rare et intéressante monographie sur l'amiral Pierre Martin (1752-1820), ancien pilotin de Rochefort qui connut une ascension fulgurante sous la Révolution et l'Empire, avant d'être mis à l'écart par suite de sa gestion de la calamiteuse affaire de la rade de l'Île d'Aix (avril 1809) : en effet, préfet maritime de Rochefort depuis la création de ce poste, c'est lui qui dut fournir des moyens de défense au vice-amiral Zacharie Allemand, le commandant de la flotte bloquée dans la rade, avec lequel il ne s'entendait pas. ‎Kentucky's Fighting 192nd Light g.H.Q. Tank Battalion: A Saga of Kentucky's Part in the Defense of The Philippines‎

‎Newport KY: Author 1981. Harrowing personal account of this unit formed of National Guard Companies from Janesville WI; Maywood IL; Port Clinton OH; and Harrodsburg KY; the author promoted to Captain was Battalion Surgeon and head of the medical detachment when they were deployed to the Philippines in late November of 1941. Poweleit describes the unit's training and his daily activities including his study of the Japanese language & Filipino flora & fauna; then early air attacks by the Japanese and their land invasion military actions and maneuvers trouble with illness & malnutrition then assignment to a hospital for a few weeks treating the badly wounded and infected until April 9 when the colonel in charge surrendered the hospital to the Japanese. After this he recounts his and others' memories as POWs including forced marches and atrocities then confinement in Camp O'Donnell where his knowledge of Japanese proved helpful. By early 1943 he was moved to Cabanatuan then Bongabon continuing his medical work and recounting more atrocities though the situation at Bongabon was considerably better. He was returned to Cabanatuan then put on a 'hell ship' carrying POWs to Taiwan sometimes under attack by Allied forces. Reaching Taiwan in November of 1944 he spent the rest of the war there. He further describes other atrocities in the Philippines the aftermath of the war and memorials to the fallen. Hardcover as pictured; no jacket as issued. INSCRIBED by the author on the free endsheet: "To Sky Beaver Written to commemorate the men of KYs 192nd Tank Battallion Sincerely Alvin C. Poweleit". We assume 'Sky Beaver' refers to a member of the 127th Airborne Engineer Battalion but cannot be sure. Book shows light wear corners a bit bumped tiny spot on front cover. Text clean apart from a few minor pencil corrections of typos; xi blank 228 pages; b/w photos illustrations maps company rosters. . Inscribed by the Author. First Edition. Hard Cover. Postcard 14.3 × 9.5 cm with chromolithograph illustration signed "P" and text "Dopisnice/Pochtovaia kartochka" in Czech and Russian. Unused; very light crease to corner; else very good. Lithographed postcard by VojtÄ›ch Preissig 1873–1944 issued by Czechoslovak Legion soldiers who fought alongside the White Army in Siberia after WWI and controlled large stretches of the Transsiberian Railroad from 1918–19. By 1919 the Legion soldiers retreated further eastward alongside Kolchak’s army while transporting the bulk of the Imperial gold reserves for the Whites. In 1920 the Czechoslovak Legion was gradually evacuated by ship from Vladivostok and over 60.000 soldiers returned to the Czechoslovak Republic. Despite the precarious conditions the Legion issued a daily newspaper using a printing press on board the train as well as numerous brochures books as well as handwritten lithographed bulletins printed in small print runs. During longer stops such as during their time in Vladivostok a printer’s shop was set up outside the train and the operations significantly expanded.<br /> <br /> Preissig was an important Secessionist painter graphic artist and book designer who worked with Alfons Mucha among others. In the 1910s he taught art in the United States at the Art Students’ League and Columbia University as well in Boston. While still abroad Preissig met future Czechoslovak president T. G. Masaryk and became involved in the independence movement which he supported graphically by designing posters and postcards. He returned to Prague in 1931 establishing himself not only as a leading typographer and book designer but also as a pioneering abstract artist. Following the German Occupation of Czechoslovakia Preissig became involved in the resistance editing and designing an illegal journal. He was arrested and died at Dachau in 1944. unknown‎

Ils vivent de peu et travaillent beaucoup. Ils vivent loin des villes, souvent dans des villages et hameaux. Ils sont très attachés à leurs traditions, à leur terre et à leur religion. Les paysans et artisans vendéens n'acceptent pas que les principaux bénéficiaires de la république, les fonctionnaires et les bourgeois ne fassent pas parti du tirage au sort. C'est la conscription, à Saint Florent le Vieil qui met le feu aux poudres. Les Vendéens exigent - La liberté de culte et le droit pour les prêtres non jureurs d'officier là où ils sont majoritaires - Le gel de la conscription pendant plusieurs années et l'amnistie aux rebelles.
