Early ownership inscription of "A. Wilkinson / Houghton le Spring / Durham" and the later bookplate of Anne and F. G. Renier. An Eton periodical printed on wove paper and a collational nightmare but apparently complete though gathering 2H has been bound inside 2I. Stab holes in the gutter suggest that the books was produced by gathering remainders of individual issues. Nos. XXVIII and XXIX have no title page as issued. Text comprises the original 34 numbers of The Miniature: Monday April 23 1804-Monday April 1 1805. "The second periodical work which issued from the college of Eton: the joint production of Dr. Rennell Mr. Knight Mr. Canning and the sons of the Marquis of Wellesley" Lowndes. Bookplate of Charles Gower Boyles and ownership signature of Edward Hawker both on the front pastedown. While there is no internal evidence this looks to be a lending library copy with a dozen or so names in manuscript some difficult to read on the upper board together with dates presumably dates of check-up and/or return. An Eton periodical printed on wove paper and a collational nightmare but apparently complete minus a final leaf of ads. The gatherings E through G are also in a different state than that of another copy on hand possibly due to a second run through the press to provide issues that hadgone out of print prior to the collection. Later issues show stab holes in the gutter suggesting they were remainders of the run in periodical form. Nos. XXVIII and XXIX have no title page as issued. Self-printed softcovers uncut very slight dustsoiling NF copy. First edition of this very rare pamphlet on birth control issued by the notorious mail-order erotica publisher Falstaff Press which specialized in republishing many of the Panurge anthropological titles including titles on sexuality sexual disorders birth control eugenics phallic worship scientific sexualia and flagellation. Most of these titles were written by some of the most significant anthropologists and sociologists working in the new and growing field of sexual sciences in the 1930s including Hirschfeld Reclus Niemoeller and Rohleder. Solomon Malkin was a young New York University scholar who had studied under Magnus Hirschfeld at the Institute for Sexual Science in Berlin and oversaw the choosing of illustrations and text for the birth control pamphlets. This work details the very unreliable “Rhythm Method†of contraception depending on the charting of menstrual cycles however notes that this is has only 50% effectiveness and should be combined with artificial birth control methods. General has delayed those orders." Pp. 2-4 are blank save for the postal address on the verso of the integral leaf with Albany postmark of July 12 the notation "Military //" in the upper corner and addressed to Brig. Genl. Benjamin Moores / Clinton County." An order calling for review and inspection of the "regiments and corps" of the state militia to which Van Rensselaer adds "a fervent wish that the militia of his country may so progress in the acquisition of the military art as to render standing armies forever unnecessary and enable themselves by their own exertions to be the safeguards and protectors of the rights of freemen." Moores was a lieutenant in the New York militia was the sheriff of Clinton County and a presidential elector in 1808.
