"DESCRIZIONE: Ed. F.P.E. Milano 1965, br. ed. ill., pp. 72 in 8° (numero unico della rivista Fatti del nostro tempo a cura di Giorgio Pisanò). Il testo, polemizza da destra sulla grazia concessa dal presidente Saragat al comandante partigiano Stefano Moranino da Tollegno condannato in un processo in seguito ai fatti di Strassera. Emanuele Strasserra, nome di battaglia ""Manuel"" (in alcuni documenti chiamato Strassera), era un agente del governo italiano (e contemporaneamente agente dell'Ufficio dei Servizi Strategici statunitense (OSS)) residente allora nel Sud liberato, sbarcato sulla costa ligure da un sommergibile USA all'inizio dell'estate 1944 ed inviato nel Nord Italia dagli angloamericani, con il compito di coordinare la lotta partigiana e riferire della situazione presente. Strasserra arruolò a questo scopo quattro partigiani. Strasserra aveva il compito di consegnare un rapporto agli agenti alleati operanti in Svizzera. Al momento di portare in Svizzera le informazioni chiese aiuto alle formazioni partigiane vicine per essere scortato in Svizzera. Nel Biellese era forte la Brigata comunista Garibaldi-Biella che comprendeva il 6º distaccamento Pisacane comandato da Francesco Moranino, detto Gemisto nato a Tollegno nel 1920. Strasserra contattò Moranino per l'aiuto occorrente per arrivare in Svizzera. L'aiuto tuttavia non arrivò mai (nonostante l'invio di un messaggio radio di missione compiuta). I 5 partigiani vennero uccisi il 26 novembre 1944 in località Portula. Le vittime furono: Emanuele Strasserra, capo missione; Gennaro Santucci, partigiano; Ezio Campasso, partigiano; Mario Francesconi, partigiano; Giovanni Scimone: partigiano. Successivamente, il 9 gennaio 1945 vennero uccise le spose di due dei partigiani, Maria Santucci e Maria Francesconi, uccise con un colpo alla testa perché avevano iniziato ad indagare per scoprire la verità sulla sorte dei loro mariti. Gli assassini cercarono di far ricadere la responsabilità della morte delle due donne sui fascisti ed i loro rastrellamenti. Il fatto rimase per anni avvolto nel mistero. The Ottoman Army consisted only of Muslim men and war caused the death of one and a half million Muslim Ottoman men. The heavy losses of the Ottoman army meant that every day more and more dependants lost their breadwinners. When the breadwinner had gone to war, was wounded or died at the front; the wives, daughters, sisters and mothers they had left behind were faced with two options: to find work and make a living, or to starve to death. On 14 August 1916, the Committee of Union and Progress (Ittihâd ve Terakkî Cemiyeti), the ruling party of the Ottoman Empire, established a new society under the leadership of one of its leading figures: Vice-Commander and Minister of War, Enver Pasa. The Society for the Employment of Ottoman Muslim Women (Kadinlari Çalistirma Cemiyet-i Islâmiyesi) was a Unionist organization created to find employment for Muslim Ottoman women who were in urgent economic need. Within a matter of months, it received more than 14,000 applications and was soon employing 8,194 destitute Ottoman women in its braches and in the related state and military institutions. In time, it would offer jobs to an aggregate number of 20,000 women workers, and became the leading employer of Muslim Ottoman women in the Ottoman Empire. This comprehensive work constitutes both a case study of Muslim Ottoman women during World War I, and a detailed analysis of the foundation, organization and activities of the Society for the Employment of Ottoman Muslim Women, created to find employment for them.
