Les trois diffusions sont immédiatement suivies de violentes polémiques. En effet, encensé ou dénigré, puissant ou faible, le PCF a marqué des générations d’hommes et de femmes. Mosco Boucault retrace son histoire en dressant le portrait de trois générations de militants qui en furent exclus. Mêlant interviews et archives, il revient sur leurs combats, leurs espoirs fanés et leurs doutes. Le livre contient le script des émissions ainsi que des témoignages qui ne sont pas passés à l'antenne et d'utiles précisions concernant la présence de Georges Marchais en Allemagne, durant la guerre. — "... Mosco présente le script enrichi de ses émissions consacrées à quelques ex-communistes hors du commun.
