It includes material published in a 1956-57 edition plus additional material. The author Gerry Healy strongly denounces the Soviet invasion of Hungary and takes Western leftists to task for not supporting the workers' uprising. <br /><br />This edition was published as a "Newsletter Pamphlet" and includes considerable material on the uprising an article on workers' councils reprinted from the Newsletter of Nov. 12 1966 and a useful chronology of events in Hungary and Eastern Europe. Henry compie una lettura articolata del pensiero filosofico di Marx restituendolo alla propria radice generativa: la prassi della soggettività corporale dell'individuo vivente, che ne definisce nello stesso tempo la sua esistenza e la condizione di lavoratore. Andare alla radice dell'uomo vuol dire andare al fondamento dell'uomo, ossia alla vita, all'essere vivente di cui parla Marx. È qui che si coglie la condizione storica e sociale dell'uomo, è nella prassi la genesi della genealogia dell'ideologia. Nel secondo volume dedicato all'economia, Mchel Henry porta a termine la lettura innovativa del pensiero di Karl Marx. Contro la teoria dello scambio propria dell'economia classica, che riduce il lavoro ad una categoria oggettiva che fa sì che il lavoro possa essere misurato e quantificato, Marx mette in luce che il lavoro è tutt'altro: è reale, vivente, soggettivo e creatore di valore. Esso costituisce la possibilità trascendentale dell'economia stessa e in modo specifico di quella capitalistica. Per Henry è compito della filosofia mostrare come l'economia riposi sulla "vita", ossia in ciò che Marx chiama la prassi, vale a dire il "lavoro vivente" del lavoratore.

Questo saggio, "Dal comunismo al capitalismo", fu pubblicato l'indomani della caduta del muro di Berlino, 1989; in esso Michel Henry evidenzia la ragione ultima della caduta dei regimi comunisti dell'Est, ragione per certi versi non diversa, nonostante le apparenze storico-sociali e politiche, di quella che segnerà, a suo giudizio, la fine dei regimi occidentali: "Si tratterà ... di riconoscere chiaramente nel marxismo il principio del fallimento economico del comunismo. Questo principio è l'annullamento dell'individuo, la sua sostituzione con una serie di astrazioni incapaci, vista la loro natura, di produrre una qualsiasi azione "reale", di "lavorare". Si capisce allora come ogni regime che pone all'origine dell'organizzazione sociale un'astrazione di questo tipo, una classe, un partito sia condannato all'impotenza, all'indigenza che risulta immancabilmente col mettere fuori gioco la sola forza vera che è quella dell'individuo stesso. [...] Pensiero arcaico, così antico quasi quanto l'umanità, ma comunque pensiero che uccide la vita, le sue determinazioni viventi, per sostituirle con una costellazione di astrazioni morte: il valore, il denaro, il capitale, il guadagno, l'interesse. Sono queste astrazioni e le loro molteplici variabili che hanno sostituito gli individui viventi, i loro desideri, le loro passioni, i loro bisogni profondi. Sono leggi, quelle che fanno girare il mondo, ormai altre da quelle della vita."
