Karadeniz was a student leader of the late 1960s generation in Turkey and the chair of the Student Union of Istanbul Technical University. Together with other prominent student leaders such as Deniz Gezmis, he was one of the student leaders who organized the famous 1968 protest against the American Navy's Sixth Fleet arriving at the Port of Istanbul, although he was initially against protesting at the docks themselves. Karadeniz suffered cancer when he was in detention after the 1971 military coup in Turkey. He was not allowed medical treatment during his imprisonment, which eventually led to the spread of the cancer. Despite medical treatment in London, he died at age 33. In this book, he has tried to adapt Brecht's socialist method to the society in Turkey. Title means 'Capitalists without capital'. OCLC has late editions, not this edition. Extremely rare.

Based on a mass of newly declassified Russian secret intelligence documentation, it reveals the true story of Soviet intelligence from its very beginnings in 1917 right through to the end of the Cold War. Covering both main branches of Soviet espionage - civilian and military - Jonathan Haslam charts the full range of the Soviet intelligence effort and the story of its development: in cryptography, disinformation, special forces, and counter-intelligence. In a tragic irony, an organization that so casually disposed of others critically depended upon the human factor. Due to their lack of expertise and technological know-how, from early on the Soviets were forced to rely heavily on secret agents instead of the more sophisticated code-breaking techniques of other intelligence agencies. But in this they were highly successful, recruiting spy rings such as the infamous Cambridge Five in the 1930s. Had it not been for Soviet espionage against Britain s code-breaking effort during the Second World War, Stalin might never have won the victory that later enabled him to dominate half of Europe. Similarly, espionage directed at his allies enabled the Soviets to build an atomic bomb earlier than expected and to take calculated risks in post-war diplomacy, such as his audacious blockade of Berlin which led to the Berlin Airlift. Khrushchev s denunciation of Stalin in 1956 alienated many of the foreign friends so valued by the Soviet intelligence services. It also made new recruitment of foreign agents much more difficult, as the USSR rapidly lost its glamour and ideological appeal to potential supporters in the West during the 1950s. However, the gap was finally bridged through exploiting greedy and disloyal Western intelligence officers, using blackmail and bribery - and with great success. Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript autograph letter signed by Haydar Rifat Yorulmaz, on a lawsuit related to a non-muslim Greek citizen's lands. Handwritten corrections on letter. Postal stamped. A Greek note. 20,5x13,5 cm. In Ottoman script. 1 p. Foxing on stamps on paper. Otherwise a good and exceedingly rare ALS with Rifat's rare signature. Haydar Rifaat [sic. Rifat] Yorulmaz, (1877-1942), was a Turkish lawyer, author, translator. He translated the most important texts of the western world such as Karl Marx's Das Capital, Tolstoy's Resurrection, Daudet's Sappho, Lenin's works, and books on anarchism firstly in the Turkish literature. In addition he wrote more than 15 books such as "Sovyetizm ve demokrasi", "Bolseviklik alemi" and others between the years of 1922-1939. He's one of the most important figure in the last period of the Ottoman Empire and Republican Turkey in terms of the modernism and leftist movements.

<p>London: Revolutionary Communist Party 1966. First Edition Thus. <br /><br />A scarce pamphlet published on the 10th anniversary of the Hungarian revolution. It includes material published in a 1956-57 edition plus additional material. The author Gerry Healy strongly denounces the Soviet invasion of Hungary and takes Western leftists to task for not supporting the workers' uprising. <br /><br />This edition was published as a "Newsletter Pamphlet" and includes considerable material on the uprising an article on workers' councils reprinted from the Newsletter of Nov. 12 1966 and a useful chronology of events in Hungary and Eastern Europe. The Newsletter was a publication of Britain's Revolutionary Communist Party. <br /><br />Copies of the original publication are available in the antiquarian book trade but this edition -- with additional material -- is much more scarce. <br /><br />PHYSICAL DETAILS: Small Quarto 9 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches; 241 x 185 mm 20 pages in stapled illustrated wrappers soft cover. <br /><br />CONDITION: Two old price labels pasted to front cover bleeding through to verso some soiling to covers one case of underlining to a page.
