London: J. & P. Knapton 1754. Reprint. Externally the binding to these ten volumes are clean and tidy but with some rubbing to the leather. The labels are clean with a touch of nicking only. Vol. XII has a closed tear to leaf A4. Vol. XVI has worm damage to the corner of the Frontis and first few pages not affecting text. Otherwise the books are internally remarkably bright and tidy with just the occasional bit of foxing / darkening. A very nice part set of this work. Full leather contemporary binding with burgundy labels. Internally clean and tidy with red and black titles illus. and plates. Vols. 8-9 revised and completed by J.B.L. Crevier; vols. 10-16 by Crevier being the continuation of Rollin's work. Vol 16 has the index for the whole work to it. Charles Rollin 1661-1741 was a French academic and educationalist in 1699 he was appointed principal of the Collège de Beauvais. Hi Jansenist principles led to limits on his progression and Rollin's literary work dates chiefly from the later years of his life when he had been forbidden to teach. His Roman history was in much part a compilation and was a generally uncritical study. Each vol. has an engraved Frontis so 10 plates.
