‎Jean-Baptiste Carny, commerçant qui a acquis la charge de directeur de la Monnaie à Grenoble est condamné pour banqueroute frauduleuse, et incarcéré à Lyon. il publie ce mémoire pour sa défense, dans lequel il conteste son jugement et les dires de son accusateur Claude de Bruno Conseiller de la Chambre des Comptes du Dauphiné qui prend la défense de ses créanciers tous apparentés au juges du Parlement de Grenoble. ‎Bel envoi autographe du Docteur Morlet à l'architecte cussétois Jacques Chapellon : " A Madame et M. Chapellon, architecte, à Mademoiselle Chapellon, dont le sens profond de la justice et du droit des pauvres voudra faire sien, j'en suis sûr ce plaidoyer pour les Hospices de Vichy, frustrés indûment de leur héritage. Sincère hommage de l'auteur". Par lettres-patentes de 1776, les hospices de Vichy avaient reçu le droit de percevoir 18 deniers (ou un sou) par bouteille d'eau minérale de Vichy produite, contre la charge d'accueillir les pauvres en cure. En 1896 la Compagnie fermière décide de ne plus verser cette redevance au prétexte qu'elle vient de forer un nouveau puits aux Célestins qui n'a rien à voir avec l'ancien. Plusieurs procès s'en suivent et les Hospices sont déboutés car on leur refuse de faire faire des sondages qui montreraient que l'eau provient de la même origine que l'ancien captage. Morlet démontre que la Compagnie savait cependant, depuis 1920, qu'il s'agissait d'une seule et même source...‎
