(vlg. dazu Brockhaus, 19. Aufl. XIII, 509).

Loney Randolph; C Ampbell Will D. Foreword
A Dream of the Tattered Man: Stories from Georgia's Death Row
Eerdmans Pub Co 2001. Book. As New. Hardcover. 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. NEW book. NO remainder marks or clippings. Tight spine bright pages. NO writing marks or tears inside book. 235 pages. Synopsis: This gripping volume records Randy Loney's weekly visits with prisoners on Georgia's death row movingly portraying the personal relationships he has developed with men awaiting execution. In these powerful meditations Loney tells how he came to visit death row and speaks candidly of the intellectual and theological resources that shape his understanding of his visits. Whatever one feels or thinks about the issues related to death row Loney brings the reader closer to the men who live their lives on the brink of death. Though the book contains a frank critique of the American justice system and capital punishment Loney's primary intent is to show in very intimate terms the genuine humanity of those deemed unworthy of life. Reflecting on his friendships with the men introduced in these pages Loney explores his increasing understanding of his own moral frailty in the face of the horror of the death penalty. Giving voice to the nature of the human spirit on both sides of the bars he affirms the integrity of life and creation despite society's maltreatment of marginalized human beings -- especially the poor and persons of color -- and upholds the need to believe in the reality of God's love despite the bewildering experience of divine absence. By turns blunt and lyrical A Dream of the Tattered Man offers poignant and profound insight into the meaning and value of the human journey through life. Eerdmans Pub Co Hardcover

Longstreet Stephen
The Crime : A Novel
New York: Simon and Schuster 1959. A clean square tight copy. Dust Jacket is not price clipped 3.50. Laid-in is a printed postcard from the publisher asking readers to provide comments on the book. This novel is based on the notorious Hall-Mills double murder case in New Jersey. In September 1922 the Rev. Edward W. Hall and his mistress Mrs. Eleanor Mills were found shot to death lying side-by side in a lovers' lane near New Brunswick. In real life Longstreet actually covered this case as a cub reporter. This is a fictionalized version of 3 days of the crime's trial from the perspective of the prosecutor. In reality the Hall-Mills case was a national media sensation. For months front-page articles appeared daily in the New York Times and many other papers. Initially no one was charged but four years later in 1926 authorities reopened the case. Hall's widow and her two brothers were arrested and charged with the murders. Their trial was held in Somerville N.J. and it was spectacular. The media again went ballistic. From July to December 1926 The New York Times alone ran almost 100 front-page reports. . First Printing so stated. Hard Cover. Near Fine condition/VG Jacket 1 tiny edge chip. Illus. by Bacon Paul jacket design. 8vo. ix 243pp. Simon and Schuster Hardcover
