Di Manfredi di Svevia si ricorda soprattutto il celebre ritratto tracciato da Dante nel Purgatorio ("biondo era, bello e di gentile aspetto"), mentre la sua esperienza quale re di Sicilia (1258-1266) è da molti considerata una semplice appendice minore del grande regno del padre, Federico II. Schiacciato fra il poeta e l'imperatore, Manfredi è stato spesso ridotto a un'immaginetta oleografica, ritratto come il bel giovane morto troppo presto e vittima di una sorte ingiusta e delle trame dei papi e di Carlo d'Angiò. In tal modo, però, non si rende giustizia a una figura ben più complessa e sfaccettata, in grado di scalare il trono partendo dalla posizione di figlio illegittimo e di giungere, per qualche anno, a essere uno dei sovrani più potenti del Mediterraneo. Questo libro vuole ricostruire i molti volti di un uomo che fu amante della filosofia e della musica e spietato persecutore dei propri nemici, protagonista di un'ascesa conquistata con abilità e cinismo e abilissimo promotore della propria immagine, custode del ricordo della grandezza paterna e complice degli abusi degli zii materni. ‎Leandro Arpinati. Un anarchico alla corte di Mussolini‎

‎ill. La parabola di una delle figure più controverse del fascismo. Leandro Arpinati fu socialista, anarchico, interventista, fascista della prima ora al fianco di Mussolini, poi afascista in contrasto con lo stesso Mussolini. Capo dello squadrismo bolognese, impulsivo fino alla violenza, dopo la presa del potere da parte del fascismo fu protagonista di una rapidissima scalata alle istituzioni, fino a diventare sottosegretario agli Interni, carica che esercitò con l'autorità di un ministro. Fondamentale il suo ruolo nel mondo dello sport: da presidente della Figc avviò una radicale riforma del calcio italiano. In seguito, dal 1931 al 1933, fu presidente del Coni. La sua ascesa terminò bruscamente, per le sempre più marcate posizioni critiche verso il regime e per un aspro scontro con l'allora segretario del Pnf Achille Starace. Costretto a lasciare ogni carica, fu inviato al confino a Lipari. Dopo l'8 settembre 1943 rifiutò di tornare a collaborare con Mussolini, attivando contatti con la resistenza e con le forze antifasciste. Il 22 aprile 1945 un commando partigiano lo giustiziò assieme al socialista Torquato Nanni, suo amico. Un assassinio rimasto in parte oscuro.‎
