Nel 1861 l'Eroe dei due Mondi fu ospite per alcuni giorni, nella villa di campagna della marchesa Teresa Trecchi-Araldi, sulle colline di Sala Baganza, in provincia di Parma. Qui Garibaldi si innamorò a tal punto della Malvasia, il frizzante vino bianco locale prodotto dalle vigne di Maiatico, che volle trapiantarne alcuni virgulti sulla sua sassosa Caprera.
