The second source is Scottish and is locational from either Irvine in Strathclyde or from Irving in Dumfriesshire. The placenames are derived from a Celtic river name probably composed of elements cognate with the Welsh "ir yr" green fresh and "afon" water. The third source is Irish and is an Anglicized form of the Gaelic "O' hEireamhoin" meaning descendant of Eireamhon" a personal name of uncertain origin. The modern surname can be found as Irvine Irvin Ervine Urvine Irving Erving Irwine and Irwing. Among the recordings in Scotland are the christening of Thomas son of Alexander Irvine and Barbara Andersone on November 4th 1687 at St. Nicholas Aberdeen.</p><p>The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Robert de Hirewyn witness which was dated 1226 in Dumfriesshire Scotland during the reign of King Alexander 11 of Scotland 1214 - 1249. ill., br. Mai personaggio fu tanto lodato per l'avvenenza della figura, la soavità dei lineamenti, l'intelligente spregiudicatezza della mente, la vastità della cultura. Mai donna fu altrettanto ferocemente attaccata dai contemporanei e accusata di innumerevoli turpitudini e inaudite crudeltà. Figlia di Enrico II di Francia e di Caterina de' Medici, fu unita in matrimonio al protestante Enrico III di Navarra (futuro Enrico IV di Francia). Ma a quelle nozze, che dovevano essere simbolo di riconciliazione tra cattolici e ugonotti, fece seguito dopo appena cinque giorni il massacro di San Bartolomeo, in cui morirono migliaia di protestanti. Ultima discendente dei Valois, accettò l'annullamento del matrimonio con Enrico IV a seguito di generose ricompense, per poi adoperarsi a rafforzare la sua posizione di moglie ripudiata. Generosa mecenate di scrittori e poeti, filosofi e musicisti, sia in vita che dopo la morte venne screditata da numerosi libelli per il suo temperamento passionale di cui non fece mai mistero. Tutt'oggi viene ricordata con una connotazione caricaturale e leggendaria sotto il soprannome di regina Margot, affibbiatole nel XIX secolo.
