Jackson Mary Smith & Jackson Edward
Marriage Notices from Washington Co. NY Newspapers 1799-1880
Heritage Books. New. 1995. Paperback. 443 pages. Prior to 1880 when New York State town clerks began recording vital records the best source for such information was local newspapers. This book presents nearly 7000 marriage notices abstracted from Washington County New York newspapers from 1799 to 1880-data which otherwise may be difficult to come by and which is undoubtedly a valuable aid to researchers. Although published in Washington County these notices are not limited to that specific area. They include marriages in neighboring counties of New York and Vermont and of people formerly of Washington County who moved to other parts of New York or to other states. Along with the names and date of marriage these notices often include residence place of marriage and names of family members. Sometimes ages and occupations are also mentioned. The notices are arranged chronologically by newspaper and a surname index is included. When used together with the authors' Death Notices from Washington County New York Newspapers 1799-1880 researchers may be able to trace three or four generations of their family. . Jackson, Buzzy
Shaking the Family Tree: Blue Bloods Black Sheep and Other Obsessions of an Accidental Genealogist
New York: Touchstone. New. 2010. Trade Paperback. 256 pages. Who are you and where do you come from As a historian Buzzy Jackson thought she knew the answers to these simple questionsthat is until she took a look at her scrawny family tree. With a name like Jackson the twentieth most common American surname she knew she must have more relatives and more family history out there somewhere. Her first visit to the Boulder Genealogy Society brought her more questions than answers . . . but it also gave her a tantalizing peek into the fascinating and enormous community of family-tree huggers and after-hours Alex Haleys. In Shaking the Family Tree Jackson dives headfirst into her family gene pool: flying cross-country to locate an ancient family graveyard embarking on a weeklong genealogy Caribbean cruise and even submitting her DNA for testing to try to find her Jacksons. And in the process of researching her own family lore Who was Bullwhip Jackson she meets legions of other genealogy buffs who are as interesting as they are drivenfrom the boy who saved his allowance so he could order his great-grandfathers death certificate to the woman who spends her free time documenting the cemeteries of Colorado ghost towns. Through Jacksons research she connects with distant relatives traces her roots back more than 250 years and in the process comes to discovergenetically historically and emotionallythe true meaning of family for herself. . Jacobs Harriet Ann
Voi donne e uomini liberi. Episodi della vita di una ragazza schiava
br.

Jacobson Judy
A Field Guide for Genealogists
Baltimore: Clearfield. New. 2003. Second Edition. Paperback. 0.6 x 8.3 x 5.4 Inches. 316 pages. Unlike a textbook or how-to book which genealogists should consult prior to venturing upon a research trip A Field Guide for Genealogists by Judy Jacobson is the perfect book to take with you once you have embarked. Consider the following scenarios: 1 You're doing research in a courthouse when you come across a term in a will that you don't understand; 2 You run across an old photograph of people who are supposed to be your ancestors but you just can't place the subjects of the photo; 3 You find your great-great-great-grandmother's death certificate only to learn that she died from a disease you'd never heard of. The latest title from the prolific Mrs. Jacobson is designed to remove not only the foregoing stumbling blocks but also to answer thousands of other practical questions which quite naturally arise during the course of research. A Field Guide for Genealogists is a veritable encyclopedia of solutions for situations that can arise in research. For example to return to the problem with the photograph the Field Guide includes sections on the basics of dating photographs and identifying historical eras from hairstyles or clothing. Similarly legal terms found in genealogical records are identified in one of the several glossaries compiled by Mrs. Jacobson. Other lists cover antiquated names of diseases and calamities as well as units of measurement used in bygone days. There are glossaries of genealogical terms nicknames surnames place names and occupations. The author has prepared a section on problems to anticipate at the county courthouse offers hints for deciphering old handwriting discusses different types of calendars and has incorporated time lines of American history migration and transportation. Other topics covered are the range of records at the National Archives the evolution of the U.S. census what to look for in museums American ethnic groups finding information in museums using library vertical files and much more--all from the practical standpoint of solving a problem on site. In fact short of carting around an entire library of reference books on your next research trip Judy Jacobson's Field Guide for Genealogists in scarcely 300 pages is the closest thing we know of in the way of an all-purpose manual to help you once you've arrived at your destination. .
