C'è un cammino segreto che ha dato quiete alla sua anima in pena. Per la prima volta questo libro, con una serie di testimonianze inedite, ricostruisce l'evoluzione interiore della principessa, in cui giocarono un ruolo fondamentale alcun grandi incontri. Il prologo fu quello con Giovanni Paolo II nel 1985, di cui disse agli amici «è stato il momento più sacro della mia vita, finora»; poi irruppe nella sua vita Madre Teresa. L'amicizia con la Santa di Calcutta, articolatasi ben oltre i meeting immortalati dai reporter, la toccò nell'intimo. E la spinse a un'altra visione della vita, quella che la portò a mettere del tutto al servizio dei deboli e degli ultimi la sua enorme ribalta mediatica. Quella che la spinse alla tenerezza e all'aiuto dei sofferenti anche lontano dai media. Come raccontano i suoi amici più cari. Proprio per questo e non per i suoi scandali la "candela" della sua leggenda non si è mai spenta e Althorp è ancora meta di continui pellegrinaggi di persone che ne hanno amato e ne ameranno sempre il cuore generoso. Seguendo la vera parabola esistenziale di Lady D, si comprendono anche le enigmatiche parole che le dedicò circa un anno dopo la sua morte la mistica Natuzza Evolo. Parole in linea con il messaggio di santa Teresa di Calcutta, scomparsa pochi giorni dopo l'amica Diana: «I poveri sono la nostra salvezza».

Margherita di Savoia. I segreti di una regina
br. Margherita di Savoia, una donna che ha lasciato una traccia nella nostra storia: si pensi al termine Margheritismo coniato per definire il movimento culturale-sociale-artistico fiorito attorno alla sua corte o alla prima rivista di moda che si chiamò "Margherita" in suo onore. Regolo, già autore di due biografie su Elena e Maria José, le altre due regine d'Italia, conclude così un ciclo, portando a galla scritti e testimonianze su Margherita che, come scrive la principessa Maria Gabriella di Savoia nell'introduzione, persino tra i discendenti erano sconosciute. Dal rapporto difficile col patrigno, Rapallo, che sposò segretamente la madre Elisabetta di Sassonia, alle nozze combinate con il cugino Umberto I, col quale costruì un'alleanza «professionale» ma mai un rapporto coniugale. Anche col figlio Vittorio Emanuele Margherita alterna slanci e ansie materne a rigore e freddezza estremi dovuti anche al senso di colpa che le provocava l'aspetto dell'erede, di poco superiore al metro e mezzo d'altezza. Lettere inedite ricostruiscono il rapporto con il barone Peccoz, forse l'unico suo vero amore, seppure Margherita non sacrificò mai a esso il «culto» per la missione dinastica. Fu artefice instancabile di disgelo tra i Savoia e la Chiesa dopo la Presa di Porta Pia, ma anche cultrice del latino, musa di poeti come Carducci, referente privilegiata di altri reali, non ultimo il consuocero Nicola del Montenegro che se ne invaghì, capace di ammaliare persino Garibaldi. Le ricevute degli acquisti svelano una smania compulsiva per lo shopping, ma anche il suo perfezionismo, dai dettagli per i costumi carnevaleschi alle lezioni di mandolino. Col suocero, «padre della Patria», ebbe un rapporto complesso e si adirò quando per «liquidare» le madri dei suoi figli illegittimi il ministro della Real Casa tagliò l'appannaggio anche a lei e al marito, come provano documenti finora inediti dell'Archivio centrale dello Stato. Con le sue contraddizioni Margherita, che fu tra le prime donne a guidare l'auto e ad abbracciare la causa dell'emancipazione femminile, nonostante il reazionarismo politico era entrata nel cuore degli italiani e fu salutata da ali di folla piangente lungo i binari del treno che da Bordighera, dove morì nel 1926, la portò a Roma, dove tuttora, al Pantheon, riposa.

Maria José. Regina indomita
br. La biografia di Maria José, l'ultima regina d'Italia, di cui l'Autore ha raccolto i ricordi dal vivo, arricchiti da documenti e testimonianze inediti. Il matrimonio con il principe Umberto non si rivelò felice come lo aveva sognato, tuttavia l'intesa con il marito nei drammi che condivisero fu profonda. Per la prima volta, questo volume ricostruisce il ricatto che Mussolini ordì sulla presunta omosessualità di Umberto. E la fiera opposizione di Maria José al Duce: nei suoi diari, confermati da molteplici fonti coeve, riaffiorano gli incontri segreti con Croce, Montini - il futuro Paolo VI -, Olivetti e altri personaggi; e il piano escogitato col marito nel 1938 per abbattere la dittatura. Un autentico tentativo di golpe, finora poco conosciuto, approfondito anche nei contributi degli storici Francesco Perfetti e Donatella Bolech Cecchi. La guerra fu vissuta con particolare dolore dalla Regina, già per l'invasione del Belgio natio fin dal 1940. Ma, senza piegarsi, affrontò a viso aperto il Duce, Hitler, e cercò conforto in tante altre figure, da D'Annunzio a Padre Pio, da Evita Peron a Francisco Franco, da Benedetti Michelangeli a Balthus. Nel 1944 ripiegò in Svizzera per porre in salvo i figli, ma avrebbe voluto unirsi ai partigiani. Al ritorno in Italia cercò di portare aiuto, con la Croce Rossa, alle famiglie disastrate, mentre bussò alla Chiesa e alla Dc perché sostenessero la Monarchia al referendum. Anche in esilio Maria José reagì dedicandosi alla musica, alla ricerca storica, ai viaggi. Poco prima della morte confidò all'autore che «sognava di poter andare sulla Luna». Regina indomita. La figura più carismatica di Casa Savoia nel tratto estremo della Monarchia.
