Our Chown Odyssey: From Vikings to Venetians Vol. 1
RitAmelia Press c.2004 2004-01-01. Paperback. Good. 0x0x0. Minor shelf wear front cover is creased binding tight pages clean and unmarked. From the cover blurb: "A narrative Chown wrote long ago shortly after the death of his father was the impetus for this book but the author knew there had to be more. It wasn't enough to recall the stories his dad had told him. He contacted historians and genealogical experts in England to get the ball rolling then went to the places where his ancestors had walked - accompanied by his long-suffering wife Barbara - looking at records tromping through fields marveling at old churches and guessing at the secrets locked away in their graveyards. Thomas, Arad
Pioneer History of Orleans County New York
Bowie: Heritage Books. New. 1998. Reprint. Paperback. Index. . 476 pages. The early history of Orleans County on the south shore of Lake Ontaio about 40 miles east of Niagara Falls in western New York State reveals the Iroquois Indians of what is now western New York at war with the Algonquins and Hurons of what is now Canada. Into this scene came the French explorers following the St. Lawrence River and the Great Lakes westward many years before the English settled western New York. The French formed an alliance with the Algonquins and Hurons against the Iroquois. The Iroquois fared so well in this contest that they prevented any French settlement in New York apart from a trading post at the mouth the Niagara River and a few missionaries. The French continued to claim New York as French territory and settlements near Lake Ontario would pass back and forth between French and English possession depending who had the upper hand until the territory was surrendered to the United States in 1796. The book explains early land divisions such as the Holland Purchase and how they related to what was to be Orleans County then describes early pioneer conditions hardships and ways of life. The Erie Canal was completed in 1825 and 'to no part of the State of New York as the Erie Canal proved of more benefit than to Orleans County. ' Prosperity came in on every hand and with it development and people. This is the phase which occupies most of the book with Chapters 15 through 29 each dealing with a town or village. The fullname index lists about 2000 names. Preceding the index area about a dozen appendices listing various types of county and town officials along with lists of towns villages and elevations of various localities above sea level. . Thornhill Book Committee
As Years Go By 1876-1971: [Local History of] Thornhill, Elam, Orangehill, Manitoba
vi, 242 pp. Many black and white reproductions of archival photos. Map. "Thornhill is a warm-hearted, closely-knit community with a deep affection for its own and a sincere and friendly welcome for the newcomer. Our wealth lies in the land, in the acres of rich, productive soil of the farms surrounding the village; the land that attracted the early settlers in the 1870's and 1880's. This book is a tribute to those pioneers, particularly those first hardy souls, who braved the frontiers of a new land and were settled here, with their families, before even the 'ribbon of steel' had been laid across the prairies. It is hoped that the pictures and stories will remind us that we too, have a history of which we can be proud!" - Introduction. Includes 150 pages of family histories. Average wear to publisher's green cloth lettered in black. Binding tight. Gift greetings atop front free endpaper otherwise unmarked. A sound copy of this informative local history and important genealogical reference. Book

Tibaldeschi Carlo
Dizionario araldico IAGI
