‎Numantia - SCHULTEN, Adolf‎

‎Geschichte von Numantia. Mit 11 Plänen und 13 Abbildungen.‎

‎München. Verlag Piloty & Loehle 1933.

(Quelle Wikipedia)‎

‎Nur el-Din, Mohamed Abd el-Halim Ahmed.‎

‎The Demotic Ostraca [Ostraka] in the National Museum of Antiquities at Leiden. [WITH ERRATA AND THESIS EVALUATION].‎

‎Crown quarto. Pp. xiv, 680. Plus 32 plates with multiple images to each bound at end. With an Appendix with 572 facsimiles of ostraca, some with verso image as well. Several extended indices. Includes the rare, extended Errata leaf which lists 40 points of corrections, loosely inserted. Original printed wrappers, discoloured, bit shabby. In a very good condition, fine interior. ~ First edition. Nur el-Din's Doctoral Dissertation, presented to the Leiden University under the supervision of Profs. Klasens and Pestman. "This impressive volume is an excellent publication of all of the Demotic ostraca (almost 600) now in the collection of the National Museum of Antiquities at Leiden (.) and includes several extremely useful indexes." - Journal of Near Eastern Studies, 1977. [Provenance:] Presentation copy, dedicated by the author to renowned Egyptologist Prof. Dr. Joris Frans Borghouts (1939-2018) from whose library this item comes. Also the invitation to the Inauguration ceremony, addressed to Borghouts, is loosely inserted. With a short concordance that Borghouts has compiled, penned on first free endpaper. [ADDED:] Borghouts' formal evaluation of Nur el-Din's work, in Dutch and English, written shortly before the publication of the book. He was approached by the Netherlands Organization for the Advancement of Pure Research (Z. W. O.) with the request to comment if Nur el-Din's book qualifies for the Organization's support in publishing it. His reply, documented in detail over several pages, was a big "Yes!". The book, indeed, was published shortly thereafter with a grant from Z. W. O. The entire correspondence as well as Borgouts' report, until now unpublished in any other form, is loosely inserted. Unique copy, providing an extremely rare opportunity for an insight into the thought process of this great scholar.‎

‎Assos: Living in the rocks. An archaeological guide.‎

‎New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (22 x 14 cm). In English. 180 p. Color and b/w ills. "Situated in northwest Asia Minor on a volcanic rock overlooking the Gulf of Adramyttion, Assos now stands in the village of Behram Köyü, Çanakkale. The settlement goes back to the second millennium BC and was later re-established by Aeolian settlers from Methymna in the 7th century BC. Assos possesses the only temple in the Doric order in Archaic Asia Minor. Great construction activities were conducted in the 4th century BC during the tyranny of the Banker Eubulus and his slave Hermeias. Aristotle's visit and his founding a school in Assos in 347-345 BC are arguably the most famous events in the history of the city. During Roman rule, Assos established good relations with Rome and as a result it was granted autonomy and the right to issue coins. The visit of St. Paul is another important landmark in the history of the city. In 1838 some of the architectural blocks were smuggled to Paris. The Archaeological Institute of America carried out the first systematic excavations in Assos between 1881-1883. A century later, Turkish archaeologists started to dig on the site. With its archaeological remains, authentic village culture, beautiful sea, hotels, restaurants, olive groves and forests, Assos offers visitors an unforgettable experience and journey back in time. This book provides readers with a handy guide to Assos/Behram Köyü and its environs".‎

‎NURHAYAT YAZICI.‎

‎Anatolia: On the trail of the Hittite civilization. Cities, temples, inscriptions, monuments, wars and treaties from Hattusa, the capital, to Syria.‎

‎New English Paperback. Pbo. 322 p. Color ills. In English. This guide/documentary book has been prepared for those readers and travellers who are interested in the history of Anatolia and its cultural heritage. In this book we attempt to present in detail the history of the Hittites, the first state established in Anatolia, and the Neo-Hittites. Their history, the structure of their states, religious beliefs, and their importance in history, as well as their major cities, and excavations made within the region, and museums that exhibit pieces found at Hittite megaliths and other settlements are all fully explained. Other Hittite settlements outside Anatolia, in Northern Syria, are also mentioned in the book. There is also information about the Hattians, the first society the Hittites ran into when they first came to Anatolia, and Assyrian Trade Colonies. The book has four main sections. Hattians and the Assyrian Trade Colonies are dealt with in the first section. The second section discusses the history of the Hittites and Neo-Hittites. The third section consists of colour coded maps describing places to visit in Anatolia. The maps show the settlements starting with the capital of Hattusa, the ruins, megaliths and tablets. With photos and up to date information the sub chapters talk about pieces belonging to the Hittites, Neo-Hittites, Hattians and Assyrian Trade Colonies displayed in museums in the region. The fourth and final section of the book explains the expanding Hittite domain outside of Anatolia, in Northern Syria, and the relationship between the Hittites and the Egyptians. The book contains details of about 20 museums, as well as 81 settlement names, tablets and monuments. Hittite and Neo-Hittite finds from the Ottoman Era were moved to the Museum of the Ancient Orient in the Istanbul Archaeological Museums. Others found during the Turkish Republic Era are exhibited in the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations in Ankara. Today architectural finds are displayed in regional museums.‎
