Plus 174 leaves of plates all bound in their rightful places with of a total of 1269 images printed in fine collotype. With illustrations to the text. Hardcover uniformly bound in mint navy-blue full cloth gilt lettering to spines. In a very fine condition. A splendid set. ~ First edition. Complete set published 1911; 1925; 1930; 1934; 1936 respectively. The "Nachweise" is by Aksel Volten. Ludwig Borchardt 1863-1938. A mammoth work rare in its completeness so much so in such a wonderful state of preservation. Collotype is one of the most accurate and attractive methods of photomechanical tonal printing processes. Highly skilled and expensive process it cannot produce more than a limited number of impressions. It has been used for single-sheet prints and luxury portfolios and since the 1950s has been abandoned by all except a few small specialist firms.
