Nazli's guestbook. Osman Hamdi Bey's circle.= Nazli'nin defteri. Osman Hamdi Bey'in çevresi.
New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (31 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. Color and b/w ills. 304 p. Personal logs and memoirs of Osman Hamdi's daughter, Nazli between 1907-1911. An ego-documentary study enlightened Turkish archaeology, painting, history of arts, and social life at the beginning of 20th Century in late Ottoman period. "This book focuses on the guestbook of Nazli Hamdi, which consists of dedications by her father Osman Hamdi Bey's circle of relatives, close friends, colleagues, or just acquaintances. The exhibition aims to shed light on the cultural environment of the era following the signatures in the notebook that belong to the leading intellectuals of the period; including the famous archaeologist- spy Gertrude Bell, founder of the illustrated magazine Servet-i Fünun, Ahmed Ihsan, the crown prince of Bavaria Rupprecht and one of the greatest poetess of late Ottoman literature, Nigar Hanim among many others Nazli Hamdi was the youngest child of Osman Hamdi Bey and his wife Marie/Naile Hanim. Born in 1893, Nazli kept a guestbook between 1907 and 1911, for visitors to sign alongside a few kind words, much like her peers. It is this guestbook, bearing traces of over thirty individuals, that constitutes the backbone of the exhibition. The display attempts to present, identify, and relate to Nazli and Osman Hamdi, or even to one another, this mix of visitors; locals and foreigners, men and women, archaeologists, authors, artists, diplomats At the same time, it examines the story of a woman, grew up in a Westernized elite family, whose life extends from the late Ottoman period up through the early years of the Republic of Turkey.".

Cilicia: Where cultures meet in the shadow of the Taurus and Amanos Mountains.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Cr. 8vo. (21,5 x 12 cm). In English. 336 p. Color ills. "Cilicia played a very important role in the history of civilizations, with its extensive arable lands and its position as a bridge between Anatolia, Mesopotamia and the Eastern Mediterranean, connecting these areas by land, sea and rivers. At the same time, Cilicia created its very own culture, and its peoples carried this culture to other regions, founded independent states, and recorded their languages already in ancient times. It is one of the few regions where over the centuries great inventions were made and major developments occurred in religion, literature, medicine, pharmacy, philosophy, magic and divination. The most important reason for writing this book is to introduce the archaeological and cultural heritage of Cilicia as well as its natural beauty in a convenient handbook, in both English and Turkish, while also summarizing recent developments in the region. It serves not only as a travel guide, but also presents spectacular images of the region. Several travel routes leading from west to east within the region are suggested. It is expected that especially tourism professionals will benefit from this publication.".

MORGENS TROLLE LARSEN.
Kültepe tabletleri VI-A.= The Archive of the Salim-Assur Family. Vol. 1: The first two generations.
New New English Original bdg. Dust wrapper. 4to. (28 x 20 cm). In English and Turkish. [xvi], 585 p. Kültepe tabletleri VI-A.= The Archive of the Salim-Assur Family. Vol. 1: The first two generations. The edition is only the first part out of five that deal with the family archive of Salim-Assur, and includes only 295 out of 1100 texts from the archive. Half of these texts are duplicates and envelopes, so that the actual amount of unique documents is somewhat smaller. Larsen has divided the texts into differ-ent dossiers with distinctive subjects that deal with the archives of Issu-arik and his two sons Iddin-Abum and Salim-Assur until their death. The volume ends with quarrels about the inheritance of Salim-Assur, with his son Ennum-Assur taking the initiative. We know Ennum-Assur also from out-side the Kt 94/k archive, as he is mentioned with patronymic by Buzazu son of Pusuken in a letter to Puzur-Assur son of Isar-kitti-Assur (CTMMA 1 71:5). Another interesting link with the Pusuken archive can be found in TC 3 36, where Pusuken is in the process buying the house of a son of Issu-arik. Larsen suggested that the most probable candidate for this son was Assur-bel-awatim. The family of Salim-Assur is well established, with Larsen discussing the major figures briefly and providing a family tree. The texts in the archive date from the time of Issu-arik (KEL 40/1-85) to the death of Salim-Assur (KEL 103/4) and the quarrelers following his disappearance that ended with the murder of Ennum-Assur (KEL 105/6). The texts are divided not according to the archeological number of the texts; rather all documents are sorted to subject in different dossiers. The content of these dossiers is further-more discussed in the introduction. This favorable method cannot prevent some chronological overlay between the dif-ferent dossiers, though this is solved by references in the commentary of the texts. The archive features two rather large dossiers on the death of the two brothers Iddin-abum (48 texts) and Salim-Assur (88 texts). Both dossiers were also discussed by Hertel; in his unpublished Copenhagen dissertation (2007: first dossier p. 438ff., second dossier p. 303ff.); an updated version has appeared since (Hertel & Larsen 2010). Iddin-abum had appointed his brother as successor at his deathbed. Salim-Assur seems to have chosen Ennam-Assur in his will, though in his case problems would arise, as an alternate testament seems to have existed. Testaments are relatively rare in the Old Assyrian text corpus, though they are frequently referred to in the texts. In AKT 6a they are mentioned, but not found, as they were kept in Assur. What we do have tells us more on arrangements made before the death of a trader. Though it seems to be standard for the Assyrians to have a testament composed, no heir in business was appointed in the found examples. It appears that this had something to do with the minor status of the traders who drew up the known testaments; we know from other refer-ences that a successor could be appointed. This new family leader was either a brother or son. (Source: BIBLIOTHECA ORIENTALIS LXIX N° 5-6, september-december 2012). Amorium: A Byzantine city in Anatolia. An archaeological guide.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (22 x 14 cm). In English. 180 p. Color and b/w ills. "In 1836 William Hamilton identified the site of Amorium and provided the first description of the ancient ruins. "We reached the deserted and dreary site of what was once a populous city.Near the centre of the valley in which the ruins are situated. is an insulated hill about half a mile in circumference, on which may still be traced a portion of the walls of an Acropolis. The principal part of the town is to the S. and S.W. of the Acropolis. These ruins.appear chiefly to date from the early Byzantine or Christian period., marking the existence of one of those large and important towns which were destroyed in this part of Asia Minor by the irruptions of the Saracens and the Seljukian monarchs of Iconium." Much of what Hamilton described has now disappeared, but since 1988 the Amorium Excavations Project has been able to reveal other ruins that testify to the accuracy of his assessment of Amorium as an important Roman and Byzantine city. This guidebook aims to give an interim account of the on-going excavations and set the site in its proper historical context.".

Assos: Living in the rocks. An archaeological guide.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (22 x 14 cm). In English. 180 p. Color and b/w ills. "Situated in northwest Asia Minor on a volcanic rock overlooking the Gulf of Adramyttion, Assos now stands in the village of Behram Köyü, Çanakkale. The settlement goes back to the second millennium BC and was later re-established by Aeolian settlers from Methymna in the 7th century BC. Assos possesses the only temple in the Doric order in Archaic Asia Minor. Great construction activities were conducted in the 4th century BC during the tyranny of the Banker Eubulus and his slave Hermeias. Aristotle's visit and his founding a school in Assos in 347-345 BC are arguably the most famous events in the history of the city. During Roman rule, Assos established good relations with Rome and as a result it was granted autonomy and the right to issue coins. The visit of St. Paul is another important landmark in the history of the city. In 1838 some of the architectural blocks were smuggled to Paris. The Archaeological Institute of America carried out the first systematic excavations in Assos between 1881-1883. A century later, Turkish archaeologists started to dig on the site. With its archaeological remains, authentic village culture, beautiful sea, hotels, restaurants, olive groves and forests, Assos offers visitors an unforgettable experience and journey back in time. This book provides readers with a handy guide to Assos/Behram Köyü and its environs".

Eine karische Gebirgslandschaft: Herakleia am Latmos. Stadt und Umgebung.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (22 x 14 cm). In German. 252 p., color and b/w ills.

New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (22 x 14 cm). In German. 204 p., color and b/w ills.

Pessinous: Sacred City of the Anatolian Mother Goddess. An archaeological guide.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (22 x 14 cm). In English. 204 p. Color and b/w ills. "Pessinous, the sacred city of the Anatolian Mother Goddess Kybele, is situated centrally on he Anatolian plateau, about 150 km southwest of the capital Ankara. A major part of the ancient city is situated under the modern village of Ballihisar. According to tradition, the site dates back to the Phrygian era as a cult site and settlement. The famous King Midas himself is supposed to have founded Pessinous and erected the first sanctuary of Kybele in the 8th century BC. The cult of the Mother Goddess spread first across the Greek world and then from Pessinous throughout the Roman Empire, and conquered the classical world. The excavations that have been carried out at the site since 1967 by the Belgian Archaeological teams of Ghent University have unearthed the heart of ancient Pessinous.".
