The Latin version produced at the beginning of the 15th century did not, therefore, have the revolutionary character that is often attributed to it. The work that made it possible to understand the universe of Antiquity as it appeared in the classics was well received from the ?literary? point of view. But the astrologists and scientists educated in universities were instrumental, in a way that has, until now, been little studied, in analysing the contradictions between the Ptolemy?s representation of the universe and other representations that were still current and accepted. The long process of the modernisation of Ptolemy?s vision entered a decisive phase at the beginning of the second half of the fifteenth century following the synthesis between humanism and natural philosophy. Le caractere unique de cet ensemble provient d'un contexte archeologique date, qui offre la possibilite de reexaminer la chronologie des terres cuites qui, jusqu'ici, reposait principalement sur des criteres stylistiques. Le materiel d'Athribis contribue a une meilleure connaissance de l'industrie coroplathique de l'Egypte greco-romaine. En effet, maintes pieces sont issues des ateliers locaux dont les vestiges ont ete mis au jour sur le site. Dans ce groupe figurent un certain nombre d'objets uniques, qui n'ont d'equivalent ni en Egypte, ni ailleurs. Le chapitre I, fonde sur un choix de sources ecrites et archeologiques, presente l'histoire de l'ancienne Athribis a partir de l'epoque pharaonique. Le chapitre II contient les donnees relatives a la technique de fabrication des figurines, a la lumiere notamment d'une etude des ateliers decouverts sur le site. Le chapitre III, qui se refere a de nombreuses figurines analogues et connues dans le monde hellenistique, propose une interpretation stylistique et thematique des motifs religieux et profanes qu'elles representent. L'etude de l'evolution stylistique et typologique des figurines athribites, traitee au chapitre IV, apporte des donnees de premiere importance pour la datation des objets de l'industrie coroplathique de l'Egypte greco-romaine. Plusieurs elements indiquent que le site a ete occupe par des soldats macedoniens a la fin du IVe siecle av. J.-C. Leur presence a certainement exerce une influence sur le repertoire thematique des terres cuites.
