Routledge. Near Fine. 1997. Third Revised Edition. Softcover. 0415138604 . Very Light shelfwear. Else fine. ; 408 pages; Greek Painted Pottery has been used by classics and classical archaeology students for some thirty years. It thoroughly examines all painted pottery styles from the Protogeometric to the Hellenistic period from all areas of Greece and from the colonies in parts of Italy. In each case it covers the development of iconography and the use of colour decorative motifs and the distinctive styles of each stage. It examines the most utilitarian pottery objects as well as some of the finest pieces produced by a flourishing civilisation. Other chapters cover the pottery industry and pottery-making techniques including firing the types of local clay which were used and inscription. This study also considers how one can date pottery and establish a chronology and the various methods by which these artefacts have been classified preserved and collected. This is the third edition of this classic text which has been extensively revised and includes a fully updated bibliography. This edition also includes coverage of new evidence and new theories which have surfaced since the book was last revised in 1972. Hard bumping to upper corners else minor shelfwear. ; Despite being one of the most successful branches of mainstream archaeology wetland archaeology as an academic discipline is still relatively unknown. We might have all heard of the wonderfully preserved organic artefacts and ecofacts found in waterlogged conditions but do we really know how they were preserved found retrieved and conserved for us to admire and study Wetland Archaeology and Beyond takes the reader through the fascinating biography of wetland archaeology from the dawn of the discipline to its remarkable achievements. Through a discussion of a large variety of worldwide wetland archaeological sites and their material culture Menotti offers an appreciative study of the people who occupied these sites and who created the archaeological artefacts. The volume also includes a comprehensive explanation of the procedures and research processes involved in archaeological practice and theory. Focusing on the relationship between archaeological experts and the general public Menotti highlights the importance of this relationship for the future of the discipline as wetland ecosystems continue to disappear at an inexorable rate - and with them our invaluable cultural heritage. ; 544 pages . A CEREAL FIND FROM OLD ETRURIA
Paul Astrms Frlag. Very Good. 1989. Softcover. 9185058459 . Small blank sticker to rear wrap. Very light shelfwear. ; 21pp illustrated. At the Swedish excavations of the Etruscan acropolis at Acquarossa some pieces of burned clay from a house wall were recovered. They contained several enclosed carbonized cereal grains and numerous grain impressions. Since traces of straw and twigs were also visible in the pieces plant material had obviously been mixed into the clay when the house was built. Some cereal grains had also been included which were carbonized when the clay was burnt. The find belonged to zone H in the excavation area and derived from the later part of the 7th century or the first half of the 6th century B. C. By the excavator of zone H Mrs. Leni Wendt the material was placed at the disposal of the author for analysis of the botanical elements. This report deals with the cereals that could be identified. Some accompanying weeds are also included. ; Studies in Mediterranean Archaeology and Literature. Pocket-Book 86; 21 pages . Paul Astrms Frlag paperback
