She knew many important figures in literature and the arts and became the mistress of French writer Guy de Maupassant in 1884. She died a tragic early death at the age of forty-five from injuries suffered in a carriage accident. This photograph was taken at the studio of Jose Mora. Mora was born in Cuba but came to the United States at a young age and became a prominent celebrity photographer in New York City in the late 1800s. In very good condition. 2.5 x 4 inches.
