La Biblioth que nationale de France est h riti re d'une biblioth que royale issue d'un vieux fonds et enrichie l' poque moderne par de multiples donations et acquisitions dont celles de la biblioth que des chanoines de Saint-Martial de Limoges (1731) et de l'immense collection de Jean-Baptiste Colbert (1732), enfin des biblioth ques des tablissements religieux de Paris confisqu es sous la R volution. La plupart de ces manuscrits d'origine et de provenance diverses rassembl s par les bibliophiles des temps modernes constituent un ensemble remarquable par sa compl mentarit l' gard des manuscrits not s pr sent s et analys s dans les pr c dents volumes de cette collection, en particulier de ceux des tablissements religieux du sud et du sud-ouest de la France. Une introduction substantielle pr sentant les fonds, leur histoire et leurs particularit s, claire le cadre historique dans lequel ces livres ont vu le jour ou ont t utilis s. Chaque notice comporte une description sommaire du manuscrit, une pr sentation des l ments permettant de pr ciser l'origine ou la provenance du volume, la date de sa r daction et son histoire. Les notices plus sommaires des manuscrits not s des collections parisiennes (1736 notices) consignent en particulier les l ments relatifs l'histoire moderne de ces derniers. ‎Summary In the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the city councils of Hanseatic towns participated lively in the Northern European landscape of diplomacy. Often, it was conflict which lay behind the magistrates' diplomatic activities. Discord among the members of the Hanse, intercity disputes between individual burghers, and large-scale "international" altercations, all required town councils to engage with actors and institutions beyond the town walls. 'Councils, conflicts, correspondence' examines how the magistrates of the Hanseatic towns L beck and Reval managed such conflicts which often exceeded the formal limits of their own jurisdiction and authority. Through a comparative study of two towns with markedly different access to political power and networks, this book analyses the scope of diplomatic action available to city councils. By placing the diplomacy of municipal governments in the broader frame of European urban political thought and practice, it shows how magistrates combined a flexible conception of the common good with a pragmatic notion of reciprocity to balance their relations to their own citizenry and overlords, as well as to the Hanse and foreign rulers. Furthermore, this book zooms in on practices of diplomacy and processes of negotiation, uncovering the variety of strategies and tactics employed by the councils and their diplomats in written correspondence as well as face-to-face meetings at regional and Hanseatic diets. ‎Summary The Enlightenment has often been used as a fundamental reference point for understanding the evolution of societies. Nevertheless, the broad nature of this term hides great inequalities between different historiographical traditions, with some countries considered to have 'ownership' of this intellectual and cultural current, which arose in the eighteenth century, while other lands have been considered at best peripheral, or at worst have been wholly disregarded. This is particularly true of the Ottoman Empire, and of the Balkan states, founded in the first decades of the nineteenth century, which have often been studied only through their relationship with France, Great Britain, and German. This, however, is not sufficient for understanding how these countries entered modernity. The studies gathered in this book seek to question the invention of the National Enlightenment, the history of representations of the European Enlightenment and their variations in Balkan space and time, and the phenomena of acculturation and rejection that can be identified in the histories of these lands in order to offer new insights into the contradictory aspirations of nations that have often been torn between several different models of society. ‎Summary This book collects papers presented at two multi-disciplinary gatherings which sought to examine concepts belonging to the semantic field of religious belief. The collection sets out from the observation that the relevant terms are ambiguous and equivocal, and indeed that this ambiguity persists in the scholarly literature in the humanities. It is therefore important to historicise these terms adequately and to clarify their development and transformation over time. This involves a sustained engagement with key discourses - logic, history of religion, epistemology, political history - of significant intellectual heterogeneity. Platonism fundamentally informs classical and patristic Christian reflections as well as the thought of their medieval heirs. It carries with it a tension between 'opinion' and supra-rational certitude which is exploited by Christian thinkers up to and including scholastic theologians. These thinkers insist above all on the existential dimension of a certitude which seeks to establish a privileged link with the divine. It involves the attempt to harmonise the ritual and social aspects of religious practice with the individual urge towards transcendence, a quest which has been bequeathed to modernity and still largely defines the nature of contemporary Western social engagement with religion. Issu de deux colloques pluridisciplinaires qui se proposaient d' tudier les notions relevant du champ s mantique de la croyance religieuse, ce volume part du constat que ces termes sont le plus souvent quivoques, ce qui p se encore sur les recherches en sciences sociales. Kennis van en vooral begrip voor die ambachtsgilden is daarom belangrijk. Van de interne organisatie van die ambachtsgilden is gezien het informele karakter tot nu toe echter weinig bekend. De gilden gebruikten vaak penningen. Hun zogenaamde gildepenningen onthullen een en ander over die interne organisatie. De gangbare gedachte dat gildepenningen presentiepenningen zijn, is grotendeels juist, maar verdient nuancering. Welke andere functies hadden ze? Hoe werden ze gebruikt? Wat betekenden ze voor de interne organisatie van ambachtsgilden? Hoeveel zijn er eigenlijk nog en hoeveel waren er? Hoe zien ze eruit en waaraan herken je ze? Waar kwamen ze voor? In de dissertatie Gildepenningen: hun rol binnen ambachtsgilden van de Noordelijke Nederlanden geeft de auteur antwoord op deze en nog vele vragen. Gildepenningen bestrijken bovendien een klein en fascinerend gebied binnen de numismatiek. Ze staan vol symbolen van hun ambacht, soms ook met raadselachtige tekens. De namen of nummers die erop zijn aan te treffen, maken elke penning tot een uniek exemplaar, waarachter vaak een boeiende geschiedenis schuilt. Gildepenningen poogt een bijdrage te leveren aan het hedendaagse onderzoek naar ambachtsgilden. De hernieuwde aandacht binnen de historiografie van het gildeonderzoek heeft geleid tot een meer positieve beeldvorming rond ambachtsgilden.
